Exactly. We are already a socialist country - see NHS. And, hopefully, a free public transport system can soon be added to that. Plus an increase in public investment in infrastructure projects eg M67 tunnel linking to the M1 in South Yorkshire.
Cuba? Had great hospitals but couldn't afford to run them or import much needed modern equipment or medicines so many were closed. Doctors ended up driving taxis for a living. All this thanks to the trade embargo. Don't know how things are now since this has been lifted. Also thought Barbados was the safest caribbean island? Been quite a few times and you can go anywhere anytime. All inclusive is frowned upon, unlike in cuba where people are cut off in gated hotels. I know lots of Norwegians, they are a great peoples. They are also politically aware, much more than an average brit. I remember being out with a couple of my norwegian pals and they were excited and proud as it was 'international labour day'. I explained that the majority of british people would have no idea, let alone celebrate it. This they couldn't understand. "But you started the labour party" they said. Norwegians pay high taxes but are rewarded by the state for it. Think the minimum wage is 35 grand a year.
Oh dear, where to start. You not like roads? The NHS? Schools? Police? Fire service? You know all socialist things. You want to check out what happened to Kansas. They went from a surplus to massive debt with a zero budget for infrastructure, even minor repairs thanks to thinking like that. And it seems that big business us happy with socialism as long as they're the only ones getting it. How many people have their low wages topped up by the state instead of actually being paid a proper wage? Corporate welfare is good, social welfare is bad? Aye what a wonderful world.
Stalin although tried to call himself a socialist designed and implemented Socialism in one country which basically was softened version of Marxist ideals. He never intended on being socialist, much in the same way Hitler called himself the leader of the Nationalist socialist party. He wanted power, and used the word Socialism to spin his right wing power hungry methodology. You are right that Scandinavian countries aren’t fully socialist however they do use a significant amount of socialist tools to create a state which is successful, which encourages state run public services, which are efficient and add economic value to the state as a whole. Public services are crumbling, the ones that were sold off in the Thatcher years are inefficient and expensive for the customers and add little to the economy as the profits are syphoned off to corporates and governments in other countries and all along the way the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. It’s a national disgrace and a democratic progressive government using socialist methods in the UK would be a step in the right direction.
You deserve the usual slagging off from the usual suspects. Your analysis of what socialism is is uneducated, inconsistent and flawed. Your attempts to portray people on this board in a negative way, suggesting many have never achieved anything in life is petty and completely unjustifiable. You know nothing about many other posters' circumstances yet you seek to belittle. Your views on socialism are what they are even if childish but your comments about others on here are a disgrace. You should apologise but I doubt you will.
We could all go away, get locked in an individual room and write out a wish list of how we’d want the country to ideally look and I don’t believe we’d be all that far away from each other. The fly in the ointment is paying for it and who is equipped to deliver it and not a single one of these parasites from either main party instils any confidence whatsoever. You need the human side to deliver what’s right and just and you need the capitalist side to raise the finance and drive.
Equality of opportunity and npt of outcome should be a Government aims. If thats via state run structures or private structures that should be the target. The lack of social mobility and entrenched wealth is what needs to be addressed. Folk should be freely able to go down as well as up.
Depressing that you've all bitten. The OP has proven time and time again that he is a very lonely old man, so desperate for attention and companionship he spends many hours typing ill thought out arguments on here to get a rise. I earnestly pity him.
The most depressing thing about all this is the "Rant of the Day" bit. Does this mean we're going to get a similar rant every day from now on? Can't wait.
Thought you said that was my job !?!?! But seriously - how many more people are going to be accused of trying to get a rise out of people ........ before the accusers start to actually look at themselves???
Many of those who espouse the virtues of Socialism, including many labour MPs, live like Capitalists.
I would say you have every right to argue. Churchill was a brilliant 'war leader' but a hopeless politician. He couldn't make his mind up on many issues. He 'crossed the floor of the House' twice, was the greatest advocate in denying women's suffrage, was responsible for carving up the Balkans after WW1 with the resulting debacle there in the 1990's and he clung to power in the 1950s when incapacitated and clearly 'past it'.
You’ve answered your own statement . Socialists look mainly at those that accumulate riches on the backs of slave labour eg Mike Ashley. And aim to fight for the rights of those workers. Many wealthy do care and pay their dues and in some cases are Socialists. **** me Boris Johnson as prime minister. I digress.
