Question: Pinnock and Lindsay a strong enough pairing in the Championship? A proven League one pairing, both good in the air, strong in the tackle and comfortable on the ball, but lack pace. In my opinion, they are not. We need to add quality if we to compete in the championship. With Jackson gone we clearly need to add to defence. For me the incoming defender should have quality and experience to slot straight into first XI alongside either Pinnock or Lindsay. And for me Pinnock would get the nod. But given the choice I would want to keep Lindsay, as he would be an excellent quad player. In current market £2m does sound disappointing fee to receive for a young talent with solid cv who is in demand.
I can't find anywhere it says that Lindsay has gone. What's the source of this? It doesn't surprise me if true and we do seem to have replacements lined up. I would have thought that we could 'do a Motherwell' and try to tout him around for more than £3 million. Weren't Leeds interested? Celtic? Don't forget that he will b banned for the first game of the season also.
No one else spot the theme here? Both players currently linked away, Lindsay and Davies. Both players linked to Stoke. With parachute payments, willing to offer big money to attract the players they want. It’s not like we’re selling/losing players to Bristol Rovers or Accrington here. We’re being picked off by a big club who are cashed up. If those players then excel at Stoke, chances are a lower Prem club will come in. Offer more money and they’ll go and move again. This isn’t inherent to Barnsley. This is the football food chain. Thanks to the efforts of both, at times last season they were magnificent but players come and go. We’ll replace them, hopefully with a higher calibre of player and we’ll watch on intently to see how the players that have left us get on at their new clubs.
I don’t see the big panic, this is what we want isn’t it? If players only have a year left on their contracts & they want out & wont sign a new deal then sell them before pre-season starts giving us plenty of time to get a new player in who can integrate with his team mates all pre-season. If it was the last week of August or in January I wouldn’t be happy but it’s not. I’m still angry about what we did in January 2017 & throwing away our only chance of making the prem since 2000 by cashing in when we’d already made huge profits on Stones & Mawson but this is different. If Pinnock, McGeehan & Thiam are also refusing to negotiate new contracts then I’d be looking to move them on as well so we can bring in players who want to be here well before the season starts. It might be painful losing players we like but for me we can’t be having our season falling to pieces again mid-season, it’s happened too many times.
You'll look a bit of a kernt if it turns out the OP has dyslexia. This coming from a man who supposedly hates bullies.
I liked Lindsay but thought his distribution once he had won the ball was woeful. Always seemed to overhit his passes. Has he actually signed for Stoke?
I loved Liam, part of our best defence for as many years as I can remember. Dominant in the air, reads interceptions, strong tackler. I would really have preferred him to stay. Here’s the ‘but’, as is our wont when a player leaves.... But is it just me or does anyone else hold their breath when an opponent is running at him? Prone to a bit of wrestling on several occasions last season. I think the better pace of Champ players would have seen him picking up more than a few cards.
Yep, we had a nineteen year stretch in the second tier in the eighties and nineties. We consistently sold our best players throughout.
Why don't you ask him if it makes you feel better. I will gladly apologise if that is the case. I mean no harm with the OP. Just making an observation.
This complete overreaction to Lindsays sale from sections on here is embarrassing. Get a grip we're selling a player for a big profit and we're going to reinvest that money in another player to replace him, everyone knows this is how the club operates.
Shame to break up the best defense we have had for donkeys but the spreadsheet does need balancing. Lindsey is the worst of the best of our saleable assets so glad its him rather than pinnock moore or mowatt.
You do know we've spent £1.2m, had a £2m bid turned down, signed Woodrow, extended Brown, signed Bahre etc etc
