Unfortunately the rise of Trump, Johnson, Farage, May and their ilk have emboldened the far right. Support for them from the likes of the Mail, Sun, Express with their racist editorials have normalised the language of racism and allowed lovely peeople like Hopkins and Yaxley-Lennon to spread their poisonous filth without fear of reprisal.

A nothing story from Sky journalists.
Yes we all know that a tiny minority of football fans of all teams are racist, thick, bigoted, low intelligence and self esteem.
These 10 people who were arrested over 4 years are a miniscule portion of the total number of fans that watched us at home during those 4 seasons, which totalled 1,180,000, that is well over a million fans with 10 arrests, hardly a reason for such lurid headlines.

In fact as the article only specifies arrested fans who attended a game it doesn't say if it was home or away, so how many were at Oakwell?
How many were at away games? Poor detail, poor journalism.

Last 3 recorded seasons arrest numbers for racist abuse: 2016 (114) 2017 (94) 2018 (75) that's across the entire EFL and Premier League, so it shows a steady reduction

Having been to many away games I would be more concerned with those arrested for being violent, drugged up, boozed out of their skulls, homophobic, singing "Pedo" at various players, and being determined to frighten and intimidate all those around them.

Plus there's Jezza who can't spot antisemitism when it's all around him, and stuck in front of his nose in the shape of a painting.

You will thus find odious expressions on both sides of the divide. If you're sufficiently balanced enough to look.

Not sure what Mrs May has done to deserve a place with the others. Maybe I've missed her extremes

And finally, I must be more deaf than I thought, as I haven't heard any racist utterances from my ESL seat for many a year.

given that with he exception of Millwall they all have a bigger following then us, as a proportion of fans we’re probably the worse of the lot.

I have to say, it doesn't surprise me. The last time I used the official supporters coaches to an away match
five or six yobs commandeered the back seat. They all had large pop bottles containing a purple coloured
liquid. As the journey progressed, from their increasingly loud behaviour and disgraceful comments to a
girl sitting close by, you could deduce that they weren't just drinking black currant juice.!

When we first arrived at the ground, as well as the girls Dad, I complained to the bus Steward, but nothing
was done. Once inside the ground, they went straight to the bar and could be seen necking more alcohol. Duringthe game, a couple of them were turfed out of the ground by Stewards, much to the delight of other Reds fans around them.

Their language and behaviour towards fellow fans who politely asked them to tone it down on the return trip
was also a disgrace. It's one of the rare times, I was ashamed to be called a Barnsley fan, until I reflected on one
of my old Dads sayings " sadly you can't educate pork."!

There's not a problem with racism at our football club. It's a progressive equal opportunities employer. There is one in our town. It's a minority but it's vocal. The support of the club is representative of the town so it is there. Far quieter than it once was but it's there. It will probably never be completely eradicated, but it's not illegal to hold racist views, it's illegal to voice them and thankfully, as it is no longer accepted by the majority, it is being voiced less and less.

Yeah they do, it was pretty early when I posted. The grey matter not in gear. I was hoping no one would pick it up

What happened to the 11 who were arrested - were they actually charged or banned from Oakwell?

The percentage of fans attending football matches across all four divisions in 2017/18, who were arrested for racist behaviour is approximately 0.000001875%. I would say that's about as close to zero as it's possible to get.

I'd imagine it's quite hard to arrest someone for racism at a game unless heard by a copper. Even if reported it would have to be proved. 11 out of 12k supporters is still 11 too many.

If that's based on total attendance versus arrest it's a bit misleading, as it assumes that nobody attends more than one match

Yeah but like I said I'd imagine the arrest to incident rating is very low I've heard rasicm at oakwell on a few occasions in the past and away at bramall lane not once did the said people get arrested.
