Barnsley FC supporters have worst record for racism in South Yorkshire Head line on stars on line page Is it just me that objects to us all been tied with the same brush... Surely it should rightly read some.... 14 arrested I think I read earlier today else where Yes its14 too many agreed but once again dramatic headlines trying to sell papers.... So wrong
Didn't you post a questionable racist comment yourself last night that you suspected you'd get banned for? Bizarre
Aye, let's just ignore it instead... 14 arrests isn't a great deal but there is a story in the fact that we have a disproportionate number of arrests given the size of our support. Plus if there were 14 arrests it's safe to assume there were a lot more instances that didn't lead to arrests. It's still a problem in football and I think it's right to draw attention to it.
How many convictions... that’s the crux of the matter. Arrests mean nowt apart from headline grabbing. Remember the five lads who got nicked after Bradford a couple of seasons ago accused of racially abusing a woman on the train... Which after the investigations were concluded it was found to never have happened...
Tt best post of the day - this Rhondda boy loves you - do you fancy a little 'cwtch?' And there has never been a time when BFC hasn't had a player of Welsh heritage in the first team.
I don't think we should object to being tied with the same brush. Anyone who can use one brush to tie us all up has invented a weirdly shaped brush and should be congratulated. And anyway I suspect someone somewhere would claim being "tarred with the same brush" was now a racist phrase. Had you used it. And therefore you may well have avoided being Racist Number 15.
And there has never been a time when BFC hasn't had a player of Welsh heritage in the first team.[/QUOTE] That a fact? Incredible if so!
Yes I remember this, they even had their photos and details in the newspaper even though innocent. Does that mean those five arrests can be discounted? If so the headlines are even more misleading and not reflective of the reality.
In reply... Yes I posted what some would perceive as stereo typing a particular race.. and therefore a veiled underlying racist comment.... Hence my attachment and acknowledgment that it may carry a ban..a risk I was prepared to take Some would point out that those who its directed at don't see it as funny and that's how racist defend their actions Others see it as light heartedness and accept it in the spirit and manner it was meant... a joke.. Obviously you sit in the former rather than the latter otherwise you wouldn't have felt the need to question and reference the fact. Racism is terrible no matter what colour creed or religion.
I don't think calling you out on the fact that you'd made a racist joke- something you anticipated a ban for- was inappropriate. Not everyone that cracks racist jokes are racist, either... I get that.
I do wonder if people would be saying 'what about the number of convictions?' if the story was about the number of asylum seekers arrested in Barnsley for sex offences
