anyone know of a team wanting youngsters to play for them? 8 year old grandson is looking for a team for next season in the Barnsley area. He’s just starting out so looking for that level.

    Any suggestions greatfully received.

Dearne and District up Goli. If I remember correctly the u8s just won the league, not sure what the u9s did but it's a cracking set up up there. Right next to where the old pit was.

Thornes Juniors, based next to the Holiday INN at Jcn 40 of M1. It's near Wakefield though, but that said they are a FA Charter Standard Football Club with excellent coaches particularly at under 7's, U8s, U9s & U10s. Good plus point I've not seen any pushy parents at matches.

That is a good plus point.. I would be no good there lol. I just can’t help my self sometimes. I just want my lad to do the best he can which leads me to getting rather loud when trying to help him on sideline.

    There is

There is no problem with enthusiastic encouragement as long as it doesn't get out of hand and degenerate in foul language and ranting at the ref. It hardly sets a good example to the kids. The good thing about Thornes is that if the kid is any good he or she will get recommended to 'Pro-Player Academy'.

Oh yeah I 100% agree with that. Never ever swear or rant at the ref, just loudly encourage my son lol. A lot of the time now tho I am the ref at our home games.

Reckon thornes are of the few exceptions in the west Yorkshire area , some of the biggest bellends parentwise I've come across in the 7 years I've bin watching my two lads in kids football have all been from the wakey/castleford area.......sithi.

Just started out with the young un myself, hes under 7s - done two tournaments and the biggest bellends so far are Wombwell Main. Whats funnier I'm a Wombweller and drink in there with my mates when I'm about, god knows where they got that kids football crowd from though.

Yes, not to be mistaken for Wombwell juniors who play in red and black stripes!

Do none of his friends play for a football team? My son s on his third team (one folded and the other he made the decision to chamge) but they've all been near to where we live and he knows kids already there.

    Yes.

Just over the top celebrating, they're 6 year old kids let both the teams enjoy it. Just constant screaming at them, mainly from the mums. We were looking for a team at that point and my missus turned to me and said "any team, but that lot".
