never thought I'd say this but there's a tory I could 'consider' voting for. Probably wouldn't in the end, but he's head and shoulders above those that are left in the leadership race. ... there I said it ... better go and have a shower.

Can’t stomach the thought of yet another old Etonian prime minister. The next one will be the 21st and they would see this as educational excellence. I would see it as extreme privilege and expectation. Until this system is vanquished there will be no equality of opportunity in this country.

He's a liberal Tory and speaks well. The fact that he looks like skelitor kills his chances.

Just as bad as the rest. His voting record is proof of that. Just that he's the 'underdog' that he's less unpopular than the others. My opinion anyway.

Just FAO everyone else in the thread, this is everything @Cambridge Red has publicly supported here. I assume you stand by this all as you’ve said you would consider voting for him.

Depressing thing though is he was still the least bad candidate I wouldn’t have wanted him to be PM but he can’t be as big a Disaster as lying immoral de Pfeffel Johnson will be. I’d seriously consider emigrating if it was practical for me

:) Didn't say I thought he was 'God Almighty' just that he seemed more centrist and truthful than the others. I could have put up with him being the Tory leader as he seemed willing to reach out across the political divide.
I'm saddened by how polarised we have become as a nation. It just seems that for one side to win the other side must be beaten into submission (Trumpism)

Its amazing how he was seen as almost a Remainer after voting repeatedly for the withdrawal agreement.

That is bang on the money. Brexit has brought us this type of dumbed-down political discourse where people can bang a drum without enquiring too deeply about the underlying facts. That creates the space for populists like Farage and Johnson to thrive - a la Trump. With Labour unelectable under Magic Grandpa we have to look to people like Rory Stewart to bring some honesty and integrity bac to the table. Sadly the blue rinse brigade are all too happy to fall for the siren voices which peddle a dream of a golden age which never existed while they stand on the heads of 'Johnny Foreigner'.

Certainly an unimpressive record, however, does your source tell you whether these were free votes or whipped? It would certainly be unusual for a Tory MP to defy the whip on so many occasions, he would probably have been kicked out of the party. As far as I know, free votes are rare beasts. Pretty much all of these sound like Tory policy so the voting records of all the candidates would look much the same.

That is how the system works for all the major parties, you do as you are whipped or you're history...only one or two usually elderly maverick's dare buck the system...that extends from Parliament right down to local council level.

So did Hunt and Gove. Boris however ......yet he is the brexiters favourite. The only positlve I can take is the fact he says we will leave on Oct 31 deal or no deal is almost irrelevant as nothing he says has any meaning a few minutes after its achieved its purpose
