Am I right in thinking he had the assistant coach role to the end of the season or was there any other announcement about next season? Will we see someone else join to take that role?
I’m sure I’ve read an interview with Conway where he says they’re trying to keep him on in that role.
If we're to move on as a club i'd rather Tonge went back into his previous role and Stendel was allowed to bring his own man in. Under transfer model what over say does he have?
I thought I’d read somewhere that Stendel was happy to keep Tonge as first team coach next season or have i dreamt it either way we should find out next week when players report back.
Think he Id rather Tonge was at the chalkface learning from Stendel personally, so he can step up if/when he leaves.
I can see where you're coming from mate. However, as a club we need to back Stendel. It's love him or lose him for me. Transfers is the ideology of the "plan" one can argue he's just here to coach. In that case back him with his backroom staff.
Stendal said he'd enjoyed working with Dale and will hopefully continue next season.Stendal was allowed to bring his own man in,he chose Dale Tonge.
Regarding transfers the club have stated that Stendal is involved at the beginning and ending of every deal.
Tonge hss come across really well and Stendel Stern and Tonge seem to be a good combination and happy so no need to change anything.
I've no idea who did exactly what last season, but whatever it was... it worked! Best not to mess with it too much IMHO.
When Winkler left. I assumed that Stendel went back to Germany to bring another colleague over to Barnsley. But that person wasn’t available until the end of the season. That is why Tonge was promoted to the end of the season. I can see another German being appointed to the backroom staff before the start of this season. But that doesn’t necessarily mean Tonge will go back to his old job.
A few reasons why you might be off on this one. Exhibit A - Stendel has praised Tonge for helping him really understand the Barnsley mentality and picked him from the current coaching setup. His choice. His decision. Exhibit B - Winkler wasn't a former German colleague was he? Stern was the one that Stendel had worked with before Exhibit C - We announced we were working on a contract for Tonge as Assistant Head Coach after the season finshed You might be right on another German coming in as we're beyond desperate for a goalkeeping coach.
How do we know Tonge isn’t his choice though ? He picked him he wasn’t forced upon him so if Stendel wants him he’ll be there. I honestly can’t see club forcing this decision on him tbh.
