Only ever had the Guiness porters which are pretty decent tbf but imo this blows them out of the water . It’s everything a porter should be can’t believe it’s from tarn and I’d never heard of it before . Needless to say it will be a permanent fixture in my fridge from now on .
If you like your Porters, I can't believe you haven't discovered Old Moor Porter before as you say It's a very nice drink isn't it, although I tend to only drink Porters during the winter myself. It's often on in the Old No.7 with that being an Acorn pub and it makes a cracking pre-match drink during the winter months.
Duly noted , I shall be making a visit to old number seven to try it . I love porters and stouts and have been in the seven loads of times and honestly havnt noticed it . Mind I have been told numerous times that I go about life with my eyes closed lol. Tbh I just looked for the guiness porters in Morrisons never thinking they’d be others .
One of my favourites on hand pull ....oooo..errr missus. Horlivka is lovely but too strong to sup all session (6%). When Old Moor is on at my local it usually lasts 1 day at most.
Its not a bad porter to be honest but just don't see Acorn do the rounds in other cities which is a shame. For anyone liking stouts, porters and dark beers. A few names to try. Titanic Plum Porter is seriously drinkable, seems to be getting into supermarkets now, though not sure its as good as cask versions. Fourpure are doing some really good things at the minute. One a raspberry stout, the other a vanilla one. Seriously drinkable. Thornbridge have done one or two, but the one I last tried was in the imperial range and it was good. Wiper & True Milkshake continues to be my favourite stout based tipple though. Amundsens have a "dessert in a can" range which tend to be very sweet, but are around 10%. Pohjala x Mother Kellys have a raspberry imperial at about 11.3% which is great in winter. BBNO have a fruit and nut stout which is quite light despite what it sounds like, and also a really solid oyster stout. And finally, only seen it in thirds as its about 12-13%... the bull abides by an American brewer called bolero snort (amazing name!) I had a blueberry one last weekend which I think might have been a Wylam collaboration (maybe with cloudwater), maybe around 8%, seriously good stuff.
Thank you for that, old mate. I love stout, porter and dark beers, but don't know much about those listed. I'll definitely try the odd drop.
No worries at all... never shy to share my beer exploits for anyone who is equally not shy to try something that might go down well. I don't know if the ones listed make it into the Yorkshire region. I'd definitely keep an eye out for Pohjala dark beers. Based in Estonia and some if their imperials have a heck of a kick to them with aged whiskey barrelled versions and some pretty experimental things. If ever in London I'm more than happy to guide you to places that might have a decent stout or porter on.
Oh and another... not quite my cup of tea, very heavy and almost Christmas pudding like. Moor (Bristol based) Old Freddy Walker.
I'm going to file all these names for future reference. Also, I'll claim to my wife, when I'm in a delicate state due to consuming said drinks, it was you who led me astray!. My wife will then ignore my pleas and put the blame squarely on my shoulders!
My shoulders are broad!! ;-) I've not managed to work out yet if the practice of consuming said drinks makes the legs grow weaker and crumble more swiftly, or they become more resilient.... worth testing each theory out though! Very lucky that theres a growing number of adventurous pubs and tap rooms where I am, so I might add to the list in future so your missus can blame me further still! ;-)
