built in 1926 and modernised in 1990 this iconic stadium may be making way for a brand new stadium but still shared by Milan and Inter. https://www.skysports.com/football/...olished-with-new-ground-to-be-built-next-door
With how far the two teams have fallen in recent years wouldn't the money be better spent on the squad rather then the stadium? Surely only takes a small slice of the pie to renovate San Siro.
Never been but what I’ve seen on telly it looks lifeless with the running track around it so maybe addressing that ? Can’t really gauge atmosphere without being there but hopefully fans nearer pitchside will make a difference and revamp their once great league.
Just had a look , you’d right it’s Roma/Lazio I was thinking of .but still not close to playing area imo.
I've actually been to that Roma stadium and that is also up for getting knocked down for another stadium getting built. That is a lifeless stadium but covered in Mussolini history so i can see why they are reluctant to knock it down.
Italian & Spanish football is inevitably going to have this ghost behind it. I think it is diminishing with young people, but with the rise of nationalism I fear that there could be a horrible incident at a match in one of these countries. The Catalonia issue is one & like us, there is a massive North / South divide in Italy, just the other way round. When Napoli were doing well, there was a lot of conflict.
Italian football does appear historically to have a strong political element regarding support. Most notably you have the right and left wing fan bases of lazio and roma. Spain too the same with Madrid and Barcelona. It does appear to be peculiarly continental.
It is all historical. I realise why these hatreds exist. I hope common sense wins out & that is moving forward, working together as human beings to save our planet. Everybody, other than Trump, is pretty much signed up to it.
Mayor of Milan says it's not happening any time soon as he wants the 2026 Olympics opening ceremony to be held there.
AC are my foreign team so I've been to the San Siro a few times, growing up around Italia 90 it was everything that l imagined when l first walked around one of the side streets and it came into view, do you know how sometimes when you see things in real life they're a bit ****, Statue of Liberty, The Last Supper, Mona Lisa, Sam Fox... well this stadium was the opposite. The area around it is a right dive, mind.
How do you get Trump bashing into a thread about a football stadium in Italy? I'm not sure everybody is signed up to it.
I’ve been to a game at the San Siro, it’s an amazing venue. One of the truly iconic stadiums in the world. It’s brilliant for viewing especially on the the top tier, with an electric atmosphere. I’d be sad if it went.
I always thought it was owned by the local Milanese authority. Guess new stadium would be built by them as well.
You are indeed right it’s owned by the city not by the clubs themselves. The first option apparently was to renovate the old stadium but the city said they’d put nothing towards this so the clubs are opting to build a new stadium between them. The obvious advantage of this is that now they would own the stadium not the government
