Lovely statement, very positive, it would have been easy for him to have said platitudes and cliches.
Good, sincere statement that. He's had a very good season and you'd say earned himself the increased pay rise that he'll no doubt get at Stoke City. When we signed him I knew little about him but didn't think he'd have the success here that he has done. Good luck Adam.
Good luck to lad. Apart from the 2 games he plays against us, hope he has a western Super in both games. But other than that I wish him nothing but success.
Good luck to him he showed loyalty when others jumped ship. Can't help but think it's 2m quids worth of player gone for nowt tho'.
He arrived for nowt and left for nowt but gave us some great times in between. I’d rather have lost the 2m than have sold in Jan and lost the promotion (and the money that comes with that too) though.
Its easy throwing away someone elses money .You must have plenty of brass to be happy to chuck away 2m . We could have brought a replacement in easily, remember it was the 3rd division football not the championship. Hindsight n'all that.
Don't think it's that easy - buying a keeper in January to immediately fit into the squad and be at least as good as Davies was over the rest of the season would have been a fair old task.
Just loan one they soon fit in . Don't get me wrong I liked Davies but he was hardly Peter Shilton. If it was obvious in January that he wasn't going to sign a new contract we should have flogged him .
His performances last season mean that I would now rank him above Nick Colgan in my all time Barnsley keepers list.
I see your point but the Board would have been crucified for that. Selling one of our players to be replaced with a loan? Not for me, Clive.
So say we flogged Davies in January for 2m and we all erupted with anger and criticism of the club for flogging one of our best players as usual. Then we get an able replacement who after a couple of games proves himself on loan and we still go up. I'd have flogged him and taken the chance.
I think his stock was pretty low last summer. Can't see us having many offers for him then. In the end he was a key player getting us promoted. It all worked out OK, we have a replacement, also on a free, who may be better, it remains to be seen. I'd have loved Adam to stay, but it is a bit of a no brainer career & money wise for him.
Such a small word has big connotations. Say we flogged Davies in January and our replacement had a worse debut than Vito Mannone....
