For a while we've had Davies, with Walton as backup who has not really let us down. Now we have 2 new keepers, and nobody seems to know who for sure will be first choice. Given the cost of housing 2 new keepers, why did we not push the boat out and get one proven keeper (they last for ages) who would be a far better proposition than two likely lads? With Walton as backup as per? Nope. Meanwhile Walton knows he's regarded as gobbo.
Does seem a bit odd. I suppose we shall see what the master plan is. Would be good for Jack to be no 1 keeper somewhere on loan to get some games under his belt.
Walton did well last time out but hasn't always looked convincing. We need capable, trusted deputies for every position.
Walton needs a continuous run of games to develop..... A full season in league 2 would be a good starting point.
Walton was considered a better bet than Davies at the back end of last season. He did superbly when he came in at that away game (Walsall)? He was a capable trusted deputy. What is capable and trusted about either of the new ones?
No - I have more idea until someone convinces me otherwise. In this case I'll be convinced when both the new keepers have performed better than Walton.
Possibly Stendel thinks He’s now got 2 keepers ready for the championship (and not league 1) that have experience and are not rookies. Loan Walton out for more match experience. ( that’s my thought although I think Walton will make a decent keeper.) it’s the must have experience position where age should not be a main focus.
Probably because Walton had very little game time in LG 1, and the manager may think it's a step too far for him atm
We've brought in one keeper from the spreadsheet, one recommended by the manager, and we have one decent prospect of our own. I don't think the number one Jersey has been decided yet. I reckon you have a better chance of picking a good one from three than you do from two. None of them have cost us owt, so imho it makes sense.
When was the last time we signed somebody ‘proven’? Our uncertainty about who is first choice is probably more down to our lack of knowledge of them both, more so Radlinger than Collins. It’ll be a good opportunity for Walton to go out and get a regular run of games under his belt, assuming he does go out on loan..
Last time we were in the Championship we all wished we had two competent keepers. Not meaning to bring up the past but when Davies needed dropping (resting) we had nobody at the time to step up. Now I hope we aren’t in that situation again where we’re struggling that much we need a change, however it can never be a bad thing us being unsure who the number one is. Competition is good, both on free transfers too.
Jack Walton is 21, he'll be sent out on loan for a full season to gain more experience and rightly so. He'll come back after 40+ games a better player for us.
The fact that Collins has come in on a 5 year contract shows he’s very highly rated by the club and seen as our number 1 for years to come. However he’s very young for a keeper and having 2 rookie keepers going into a championship campaign is a bit risky. It’s the one position you need a bit of experience. I presume the club think we need a more experienced back up or we feel Collins needs a year or two to develop as a number 2 Do feel bad for Walton though who presumably will be loaned out
Two senior keepers is something we, frankly, should NOT be worrying about. When it comes to February and needing points, our luck dictates that Collins will do his hamstring, we'll just be left with Jack Walton (a capable but VERY inexperienced keeper). Then we'll be sh*tting ourselves.
I personally think it’s an impressive sign of our intent that we have brought the 2 keepers in. Collins clearly has a hell of a lot of potential and is definitely a future number 1. Whilst the Austrian lad is likely to be the number 1 initially , he will have genuine competition right from the off. As others have said Walton would benefit from having at least half a season out on loan , ideally in league 1 but I guess more realistically it will be league 2 to guarantee him a starting spot.
Walton was our number one the season before last. For a while. Now he's number 3. If we were applying that philosophy all over the pitch, then fair enough. Shall we look at centre backs, for example, to see if the same principles are being applied there? (plenty of time yet i know)
Walton became our number one when we were hideously short of options. He's had some good games and some bad ones. He still has a lot to learn and a loan spell away will do him good.
