Well this guy is getting some hammer. Anyone off here?? http://oatcakefanzine.proboards.com/thread/288623/barnsley-fan?page=1
The thing is I think Stoke fans are in for a culture shock, I'd probably have to agree with 80% of the posters judgment.
It’s a strange one really because I’d have loved to have kept both players and to do so along with the rest of the re-signings may have had us further up the championship based on what we’ve seen. I also have a feeling that they’ll both get better in the next few years if they play regularly. I do however agree about davies’ kicking and Lindsay potentially giving a penalty per game away. Having said that, I wish them both all the best in the rest of their careers especially Davies who having played so many games for us, is a rarity in the modern game.
I hope Davo does get to be first choice keeper ( then its up to him to perform to keep the position) or he really shouldn't have gone, despite the good goal keeping coach.
As much as Tykesfan means well, for me his comments are the reason why it's not wise to post on other Clubs forums, because of the abuse that can follow. No need for it, but he was just offering his opinion, which in the main is being seen as sour grapes. Whilst Davies did have a shocking time the season we were relegated under Morais, on balance, you would have to be honest and say he performed well, otherwise he wouldn't have retained the jersey. He has surely got to leave with our best wishes and our thanks for his past loyalty and many good performances. All I've said to my Stoke supporting former workmate is, there's a difference between League One and Championship football and it will be interesting as to how quickly he can settle in, if he's first choice that is. I agree with the comment about his kicking. At times it can be frustrating that he puts so many out of touch, but it's something he might be able to improve on. As for Lindsay, for me he's work in progress. A little hesitant but sure footed and confident in his own ability. Agree prone to the odd gaffe in the box but he will learn. I'm sorry to see him go. He was building a good understanding with Ethan, but as he refused to talk about a new contract the sensible thing was to sell him. Looking at Stokes present squad, if their better defenders are still at the Club at the beginning of the season, Lindsay could find it hard to get a regular game. Like Davies though, sad to see him go and he leaves with my best wishes and hopefully those of many other Reds fans.
Same owd same owd negative rubbish from some of our supporters - our players are great while they are here - but suddenly become garbage when they leave. Let’s hope both players do well for Stoke - except when they play against us.
He did though in fairness 2 of those he wouldn’t have had to make if he hadn’t made the mistake to give the chance. That said it’s the only poor game I saw him have this season most games he has been excellent and he saved us far more points than the 2 some could claim he cost us. He wasn’t the only player to be poor at Oxford either
It reads to me like sour grapes. 85% of goal kicks going out for a throw in? Maybe one/two a game when he’s asked to hit the touchline.
His kicking last season was vastly improved, I thought he was a great keeper and wish him well securing the future of his young family. Of course I wish it was with us, but he owes us nothing. A class act.
Tbf that game summed Davies up perfectly. Decision making was awful but his shot stopping is excellent.
If the Stoke fans or those in charge of transfers saw that second goal of Oxfords I think they'll regret that they've signed those two from us. Fortunately for us those things didn't happen often. I wasn't Davies's biggest fan but I always praised him when it was warranted (which last season was every other week) but that's just a personal opinion. But I do feel it was the right time for him to move on and im excited to see how these two new guys get on. Good luck to Davo and Lindsay.
I'm sure they've judged their performances over the course of the season. 22 clean sheets is impressive. They may have made major mistakes on a Tuesday night in Oxford, will they do the same on a cold Tuesday night at Stoke? Haha. I thought the reaction on the Stoke forum was fair and measured and I agree with you, will be interesting to see how both lads get on, wish them all the best.
Ridiculous sour grapes from the Barnsley fan that they saw straight through. Expect that when Pinnock goes in a few weeks people will try the same crap with him.
Yeah totally agree. It's a steal getting the two lads for 2.5 mill judging last seasons performances. That said though if they did enough research they may have found that Pinnock was the better option over Lindsay. Maybe a similar scenario to when Wednesday signed Winnall a few seasons back, I told lads who I know which go and watch that club after they finished gloating about the signing. His stats may look brilliant (which in fairness they were) and half a mill was a steal at the time but if they weren't taking Hourihane when they had the chance he wouldn't be the same player. Maybe this is the same with Pinnock? Either way good luck to them both, but please let us get Pinnock tied down.
