Just wondering if anyone can recommend any good used car places? Need an automatic for the wife to use but only got around 4k to spend. Just wondered if anyone knew a good garage to go to? Thanks in advance
Buy private if u pay 4000 at a garage it's only really worth 2500 tops. What size type etc u needing?
Check previous MOTs on line. A friend bought a Focus with a 12 month MOT no advisories. Took it to a garage for an estimate and was told it would fail an MOT on four counts. Previous MOT had the same four advisories. The vendor had said he has a mate in Wakefield does all his MOTs.
Just look in Autotrader; there'll be plenty in there. Put in what you're looking for, how far you want to travel and your price band.
Is rather pay a bit extra for the security. When I bought mine 2nd hand from JCT600 it came with a guarantee for all parts for 12months. It needed new shocks after 10months so they replaced them all for free. I also know for a fact all is above board legally. I know it’s not for everyone but I won’t ever buy private.
Me too. Back to the OP. It's worth doing your research so that you know what to pay. Autotrader is a usefulsite in that regard. Also check for any price match promises. We got our last car at Arnold Clark Wakefield. The salesman was quick to tell us that if we could find the same car at a lower price, they'd give us double the difference. At that point I grabbed his mouse, took charge of his computer and pulled up the exact same car, £400 cheaper, at the Arnold Clark Huddersfield branch. Kerching! Poor bloke looked a bit shaken when he came back from speaking to his manager, but we got the car and the deal.
I was really lucky went to Auctions, in Bridlington, i dropped on, gi it a go but go wi somebody that knows cars. GUD LUK.
Definitely do the free MOT history check online. All you need is the registration number. My son was looking to buy his first car from someone he knew at work and obviously being his first car it was a cheap one. The MOT check showed that it had failed every MOT since it was 3 years old and not just for silly things like a worn windscreen wiper or blown bulb, some were quite serious. He decided not to buy that one.
I use cargurus.co.uk as a useful site for comparisons, lists sellers and guide if good deal or not. Easy to use and you don’t have to register either, it will enable you to stretch your search area without driving around
Yeah, Mark’s a sound lad. Comes from a nice honest family and is a genuine car guy. If he doesn’t have in want you want, he can source stuff too.
Buy from reputable dealer. You get legal protection and they have reputation to keep up. Old days that car dealers are Arthur Daley type long gone. Much more professional business now.
Thanks for all the advice very much appreciated. Anyone got an astra 1.6 petrol around 2011 age? Off to look at one later.
