How is it two faced exactly? Explain that one Surely two faced would be if we kept Wilks if he’d been found guilty? Not the scenario I suggested?
Again remind me. If we had approached Joey Barton to be our manager based on what we know - guilty or not. What’s the difference?
We don’t sign him, he signs for Hull. He’s fantastic, gets found not guilty. 2 years later Signs for Chelsea for 20m. Be talked about for years on here about how we should have signed him. Been rumoured for weeks on here, I only recall people saying how good a signing it would be
Can't speak for anyone else, but I'm not Think it's always better if we stick to what we think and give our opinion rather than say what other people ate thinking.
Fair enough. I’ll see myself out of this particular thread as it can only go round in circles from now on
Yeah 2 female paramedics may I add but that's okay according to some because he said sorry and pleaded guilty. Wilks hasn't gone on trail yet and has gone not guilty but we have alot of judges and jurors on here.
I was asking whether or not someone charged with a serious criminal offence should be given a contract at the club. Your reply had nothing to do with my question.
Totally agree with your view MT. You would hope that the Club have thoroughly gone into the matter and have taken on board expert legal advice. I believe Wilks has repeatedly stated that he's not guilty. Surely he should be able to afford the best lawyers to defend him, so we will just have to wait and see what evidence the prosecutors are able to present and hope that the jury find his favour. One thing going for the lad, notwithstanding someone was sadly wounded, is that it sounds as though Wilks didn't physically do the stabbing.
A question for you WR A guy robs a bank - three months later he's in court and found guilty. During the three months between offence and court was he innocent?
I don't know if the 'Joint Enterprise' law still exists but just being at a crime scene could result in a conviction. There was a case recently of someone who was persuaded to drive his friend to a pub. Friend went into the pub and stabbed the landlord - car driver got life in prison because of his involvement although he knew nothing of his friends intention I agree, I hope Wilks gets the best lawyers and is treated fairly.
The infamous or famous Derek Bentley case Last person to be hanged executed in the UK. for shouting "let him have it" joint enterprise mentally aiding the murderer . that fact the case is going to court means the CPS believe there is enough evidence for him to be convicted of the offence. where he may or may not be convicted in front of a jury depending on the heard evidence and there view on that evidence can't understand why the case is going to court to be honest one of the previous posters says he has said he's not guilty. so all charges should be dropped immediately. its a known fact that anybody or everybody accused of anything whether it be speeding all the way up to murder readily admit's it was them and say's it was me fair cop guv before you know it there will be people saying people who swear in court on the bible to tell the whole truth...... actually don't. Red -Taff The idea behind getting the best(most expensive) lawyers is for you to be "not" treated fairly no ?
He was not guilty. It's a very important distinction. When somebody is found "not guilty" in court, that's not the same thing as "innocent". A jury could theoretically be convinced that a defendant had done something, but not have the evidence to convict. That's a ridiculous parallel though, as I'm sure you know. You've told us that the guy robbed the bank, so we know that he's guilty.
Derek Bentley wasn't the last person to be hung in the UK, that distinction belongs to Peter Anthony Allen and Gwynne Owen Evans. Are we cynically signing a player who is facing a court case and potential prison sentence, or are we helping a troubled lad have a fresh start?
Shouldn't we hope that the entire truth outs and that if he is innocent of any wrong doing he's exonerated, but if he was involved, he willingly tells all, shows remorse and is sentenced fairly? Hoping the jury 'find in his favour' simply because the accused now plays football for a team we support is an excellent example of one of the reasons I have problems with this signing.
yup can remember watching the doc thought it said he was the last one. Are you saying its part of the spread sheet parameters !! for cheap buys. No idea of the details of his case guess depends what hes actually accused off but as you say sure we have all done some things we are not proud of in the past and never got caught for them or did and were punished for it. hanging around in gangs as i guess alot of us did in our youth pretty easy to caught up in things gangs attracts trouble and sometimes you are actively going looking for it. is it at a magistrate court or crown court ? one for lesser offences up to 6 months jail generally other for more serious crimes longer sentences
It could and I believe was debated to some extent at the time that his (Derek Bentley) statement.. Let him have it... Was not in reference to pulling the trigger rather he was telling the actual shooter to hand over the gun to the police...
If he had been a contracted player of ours fair enough stand by him till the law and courts decide if he is guilty or not depending on the exact charges(is he accused of stabbing somebody ?) he may well have been suspended with full pay then reviewed it depending how long the case goes on To buy him from another club while this is matter is being sorted is in my opinion wrong very wrong actually would any new employer take on a person interviewing them for a position if they were aware of charges including O.A.B.H No
