    I was born and brought up there. It could be so much more than it is. The pubs are largely a disgrace (except the white heart) and the high street has nice architecture but bugger all shops. I wouldn't in any way call it "bleak" though.

    Well - as it happens - you have touched on one of reasons behind the initial thread.
    And it comes from comments made by others on here about my childhood and how things were in town a few decades back.

    As I’ve said - if you watch Kes you see how life was back then and for some it’s still like that now.
    So when I get disparaging remarks - I often think are these people from the same part of town as me - that is from Cudeth to Mexborough?
    People of a certain age will able to relate to this.

    Well - I’ve been and got back.
    Yer need strong legs to get up and darn those streets.
    It wer peeing it darn of course - but nice thing was that there was no snow.
