Watched the interview and it has tones of lesser spotted groundhog of the heckingbottom era. Not bitter and bombastic, of course. But clearly concerned he has a huge amount of new players who he's having to educate into his very specific style of play and just don't have the experience to plug and play, and you can see hints of frustration that he's lost so many players he's put so much time and effort into. I think we've tried to do most of our business early to allow as much time to coach and train as possible, but I reckon we still have a couple more to bring in. A 26-28 year old captain would be my necessity having brought in a massive batch of 21 year olds. I just hope this window is the last of its kind and we shift to one that is more stable and involves 2 or 3 in and 2 or 3 out. As I've said before, its just not fair on a coaching setup of any club to have to create a new team from scratch with 21 year olds every 18-24 months.
I find myself agreeing with everything you stated there. The plan, involves frustration.... time and patience. I hope danny sticks with it, I think the brand of footy he produces is very pleasing on the eye and he knows his onions.
It was interesting to see him articulate his fears about the lack of experienced players in defence. He genuinely seemed fearful about the season ahead and how the team will perform. I don't know him so perhaps I'm misreading his body language. Another thread talked about loan players, so maybe this is the solution the club will use for this season?
Fabulous interview. Very open and honest. Of course it might be a struggle with all these new players to hit the ground running at the start of the season. So please remember that for the first few matches. And interesting to hear that when Danny talks about experience - he’s NOT talking about ‘experienced’ players being brought in. Experience has in the younger players gaining experience. He seems happy with the squad - but IMO we need a couple more strikers. Danny seems a very happy fella right now - which is totally different to the Hecky interviews in the summer 2017.
Firstly I think his grasp of our language in twelve months is phenomenal, from not speaking a word to conducting such an interview with clarity of a seasoned visitor to our country is to be applauded. On the transfers I think everybody’s frustrated from chairman to fan . But the club are addressing this with better and longer contracts. There’s nothing to be done or gained by criticising a past policy of short contracts and easy escape policies imo. As long as it’s being addressed ,which it is then everything is positive imo. We need to focus on the players we have now and see where it takes us , I personally think we’ll bed in this season and do well next but we’ll see.
All a new contract would mean is we would get more money if he leaves for another club or pay him more if we sacked him. It would not increase the odds of him staying longer.
I read an article on Leeds yesterday. The point made was that the norm is that after a good season in the Championship they always lose players. The vast majority of clubs are in exactly the same boat as us. Let's face it if we're looking for a hassle free smooth ride for our club then we're following the wrong team.
