At a time when several clubs are in financial difficulties it shows that sometimes throwing money at it isn't always the right thing to do.John Dennis told me years ago if you run a club properly you don't need to invest your own money. For me at the moment our owners are doing things the right way.Sell players who don't want to be here and reinvest in those that do without damaging the framework of the club.

I think there is a certain amount of ‘Priming The Pump’ to do at Barnsley.
Which means of course an amount of money invested into the club to reap the rewards at a later stage.

This amounts to bringing young players in and giving them long contracts - which is great to see is actually happening.
In saying that - keeping in mind the links the club has to the continent - I’m surprised not many young continental players are being brought in within the £1 to £2 million bracket.

Plus of course changes to the ground.
    New West Stand etc etc.
But this might come when the stadium ownership has been sorted out.

On holiday and just finishing up reading Peter Hooks "How not to run a club" about the complete farce the Hacienda was.

In the footballing world its like how Sheff Weds been run, glad we aren't like that.

All seems sensible however much has changed since the John Dennis days. I don't want us to end up a basket case club but I feel that to really challenge in this league we may need to invest some money beyond what we make from transfers.

We already have some key elements in place so with a little luck who knows but generally investment goes a long way.

Worth the read, slow to get going but stick with it, never knew how mad he was Mr Hook, Bez in his autobiography said he met up with him in Ibiza and thought he was crackers, if Bez thinks anyones crackers....

That club wasted millions of pounds, but l dont think they'd have it any other way.
