I’ve seen another post on a different thread regarding hoping we don’t boycott the sheff weds game away as the lads will need our backing. This is 100% correct, they will need our backing. What is also 100% correct tho is that us football fans collectively are being priced out of attending such away games that we WANT to attend to give our backing.

I’m in a position that I can no longer warrant paying £40 to watch any game of football as an away supporter especially factoring in the additional costs that it encounters to watch your team (ie travelling/petrol, Parking, food, beer costs). The only way to beat it is to make a stand collectively and get as many other teams on board as possible and show these owners that without fans, football is nothing.

The premier league have it correct that any away fan will not pay more than £25 to watch any game that season. For me, this is still £5 too high but it’s a start and a change they have implied to relay back that even our top division understands that prices are now astronomical for any away fan to attend a certain game.

    What do we do?

Should this game be priced at the £39 we half expect to be charged, Do we pay and still go no matter what? I don’t begrudge anyone that goes to the game one bit as afterall you are supporting our team but wouldn’t it send a message should we not attend? Not just to Sheffield Wednesday but any other club thinking of charging these sort of prices and also the whole of the country should we get the exposure and also try to negotiate with other fans of other clubs to join in the fight against ticket prices?

I completely understand each argument about going or not going but for me it is probably time as football fans to fight back and get football clubs to realise that we won’t take it anymore?

As much as the players deserve backing I would love it, love it if we set an example and not a single away fan turned up for a local derby. But no, a couple of thousand will pay £36+ and we'll be mocked for not filling their away end and it'll be 36 quid again next season, and so on.

I won’t go. People should know the value of money and it’s not worth it. Straightforward and down the line.

I'm torn. I've seen that many horrible defeats there, I'm determined to be there when it finally happens. It's like being close to a win on a one arm bandit... you've invested that much money, you can't give in now. Multiplied for me because of where I live, and the fact I missed our victory there when JCR scored the winner. I've only seen us win there once in my lifetime and that was when Glavin scored.

However, I do get the boycott mentality. I've not been to Leeds in years, on principle.

Last time we went to Hillsborough, my son and myself were both surprised how decrepit it had become. The terrace behind the goal was crumbling and some of the seats were very loose.

It might have improved since, but I said I'd never set foot in the place again. As a point of principle, I would honestly never pay £39- £40 to watch a Championship game.

To a lot of fans, prices like that, are unaffordable and appear to be absolutely obscene.

If its £39 quid I will not be going. If others want to pay that then good luck to them.

Question is then, should we collectively as supporters of Barnsley boycott this game if we are charged what we expect to be charged? I’m willing to help spread the word and try my best to get it out there to fans of other teams who feel the same?

Won’t be going out of principle. Just don’t understand how away games in the championship can cost more than those in the premier league.

I know this is not at all possible but,

the club should get in on beam back and charge a tenner in and just pay for some really loud speakers sending our crowd noise to sit in the away end at the pigsty.

    @Gally
As a board member of the supporters trust, what would be the trusts stance on something like this should it happen? Would you all be willing to be involved and back a boycott on a fans majority behalf?

Should we collectively decide to do something tho like this and given we have nearly 5 weeks to possibly plan something give us enough time to get the word around and TRY? The game falls on a time where the season is still young. It should never equate to thinking this way tbh in my opinion as I love following my club around but it’s now coming at a serious financial cost. I think if everyone or most people back this and we try and spread the word nationally then it will start a movement.

I'm sorry, but I can't ignore the irony of this. What are we going to do when our own club, charges our own fans £36?

I take your dreams, and I up your stake to, how good would it be for thousands of Barnsley fans to be in Hillsborough Park, in earshot of the game, making loads of noise, watching the game on a screen, donating a nominal fee to charity. (Sheffield Children's Hospital for example).

Totally agree mate. We are just as bad but at least we are making efforts to negotiate with every club in the league to come to a arrangement on price (Luton and West Brom). There are other ways also to watch us at a cheaper price too other than a season ticket if you look at the info. It is still wrong to to charge any fan the amount of £36 to watch a game of football and people who do have a problem (like I do) of being charged this amount now need to ask themselves where or when does it end and is there anything we can do as fans now to try and help stop this. I would back Sheffield Wednesday to boycott the reverse fixture should they get charged the same as rivalry’s aside, the one thing we have in common with any football team is our love for the clubs we support and we are all in the same boat on this. This isn’t an attack on them as football fans of sheff weds. It’s a stance against ticket pricing

Decent idea but not sure about how the police will react to having to police that.
