... in front of a Championship / Second Division campaign I can remember. I may have a cheeky score on a top half finish.
Yeah totally agree about the squad. Short of a left back but there's time. More than pleased at how the summer window is taking shape.
I'm positive about this season but it's a bold statement to say this is the best squad we've had at this level. I've no idea who half of our signings are, never mind how they're going to gel together.
Admire the optimism, but we haven't seen half of them play yet! I'm happy that we now seem to have several options in attack and on the wings, but I'm concerned that our central defence is very young and untested and that we still need cover at left back and in defensive mid. I applaud the club for getting players in early but think it could go either way this year. Having Stendel at the helm will massively help our chances of survival though.
Hard to say we have an untried and unknown team who have never played together and most crucially a defence which is completely new. We have little experience at this level and I’d say anything outside of the bottom 3 will be a massive triumph. It’s echoes of 2 years ago for me.
Midfield and attack I probably agree, however it's impossible to form a view on the strength of our defence. I'd be over the moon with the squad if we'd kept Pinnock but without him the back line has a huge question mark hanging over it for me.
2 years ago I seem to recall we went on a pre-season tour to Hungary with not many more players than Bolton currently have on their books so it’s far from a valid comparison.
We have recruited earlier so that's a massive positive compared to 2 years ago. We have however brought in large numbers of new players so there are a lot of similarities. Hopefully the outcome will be different.
I agree with you mate. As positive as I like to be, it's a fact that have signed plenty of players, but not a lot of championship experience between them. Based on the amount of players we've polished and sold at profit though, I've every confidence in at least a couple of them turning out to be future gems.
This, last time I felt we would struggle. This time I have very little idea as its almost impossible to work out the standard some of these players may be capable of playing at right away. The first 10 or so games will give us a feel.

We have little experience at this level and I’d say anything outside of the bottom 3 will be a massive triumph. It’s echoes of 2 years ago for me. 2 years ago we started a season having sold any experience with a completely new back line and lots of new signings many of who like Pinnock and McGheehan eventually came good.it was too late to prevent relegation. Given our recruitment which oozes potential but also inexperience it would be unsurprising if the results were the same. But of course we live in hope. Onwards and upwards
Pinnock and mcgheehan never got the chance to help barnsley avoid relegation nor did mowatt. We got used to seeing McDonald or lindsay launching long balls to Bradshaw the worlds smallest lone striker or gardner and Williams playing sideways and backwards balls in midfield. I agree with the rest we have a relatively unknown back 4 having sold our 2 centre halfs. Will be a tough season hopefully we can avoid the drop and build.
My recollection was the number of chances , easy ones , that we missed at the end of that season ,Leeds away comes to mind , despite Morais we could have stayed up and Bolton gone down .
