Tonight I actually saw my Dad's workplace being broken into. A piece of sh*t wearing a balaclava robbing his workplace. My wife was driving on our way to party, we spun the car around after viewing the break-in in progress. Upon arriving the crim now with face uncovered sped by us in his van. We called 999, at this point police were blue lighting their way to us. 20 mins later we were told a more urgent call had come in. The said they'd attend afterwards.

My dad's place got done over 4 weeks previous, probably the same people. This time they used an angle grinder to get through the new security gate.

This isn't me having a go at at SY Police far from it, instead how can be right that they are so unbeleivebaly resourced. Crime in progress with witnesses and it's downgraded. I actually work in law enforcement ( another part of the Home Office) why are tax payers being short changed. The financial crash in 2008 has allowed these things to become the norm.

I know alot of posters hate our kick offs being changed, but when 'hot'crimes are being missed no wonder they are moving resources about.

We pull a few other forces in for these games as well if you look at the uniforms. Police are chronically underfunded- you can't cut 20k police and expect them to perform.at the same level

I think our council tax bill for SYP went up 14%. For that we get less police on the ground and fund a regional police ambassador or whatever it’s called that actually does nothing to stop crime. The local stats show 50% of reported crime are incomplete, not followed up, etc. The stats must be also understated and many people these days just stop reporting crimes. The Gov as I said on another thread have mastered the art at deflecting blame. Cut police budgets then blame police for poor performance. The tactics seems to be to force people to tolerate crime, have a false sense that education is more effective than detergents and punishment. Reoffending rates I would guess are increasing and with sentences reduced as a process ( even at the time of sentencing people know what they will really serve). Recently daughters house broken into, my car stolen from drive. I could go on. Crime is on the rise, as is homelessness, anti social behaviour, etc. The only thing being reduced is government funding to make this country great. Brexit will sort it ....... !!

Got a friend who works for SYP . They used to have special search teams ( 2 shifts ) that were brought in should someone go missing . They were disbanded in 2010 to save money . Remember the young lad from worsboro who died in that building site a few years ago ? He always says they would have found him in time had those search teams been active . They sent out regular beat officers instead without the required training and sadly the rest is history .

My view is the Torys used the crash as an excuse to push through cuts they’ve been after doing all along, which under normal circumstances would have been unpalatable to the electorate. The harsh reality is the public voted for it.
Or, as an alternative, we could take the crises in policing, education, public services, global warming etc,,,and of course changes in kick off times and blame the EU.

They have enough money to deploy “officers” carrying automatic rifles at last year’s game against the Massives.

And transit vans full parked on side streets eating burgers.

This is West Yorkshire Police, not SYP, but last night I was DJing in a bar just outside the centre. There was some minor infringement of the licence (it was either for a kid being in the venue after 9pm, or for drinks outside). 6 police officers were in attendance for nearly two hours, between 9:30 & 11:30. **** knows, what was going on on Saturday night. Eventually, they handed the bar manager a piece of paper & went on their way. I was totally dumbfounded.

I know what you're saying, but generally don't the Tory bar stewards want a strong police force so they can pursue agendas as per Thatcher...????

It's postcode based. If you live in an affluent area you get looked after. In LS6, where I live you never see a copper & burglary, robbery is not investigated at all.

It's called austerity and everyone has fallen for it. There's plenty of money but it keeps getting given away to the Toryies' buddies, bribing the DUP (I still question the legality of the billion pound bung) and of course HMRC being toothless kittens, at least to 'big business'. Thinking if changing my name to Vodaphone, Starbucks, Amazon, Boots, Tesco or after another tax dodging set of bar stewards. Now if only there was new legislation to try and curb tax 'avoidance'. Perhaps one that covers a continent? Imagine that?

Update.....well there isn't one. Police came out think the culprit was in vehicle using clone plates. Shock horror, crimed and no further action at this time. So another insurance claim going in which will no doubt up premiums for all businesses in the area.

This supports the survey this week that only 7.8% of crimes actually result in someone being charged or brought to court! No wonder crime is increasing in certain areas, the criminals know that they will never ever get caught.

Completely agree with your comments. In a strange twist on Friday I witnessed a women drive into a car in Asda car park at Cortonwood. She sped off after thankfully just damaging her own car, I gave chase and got her reg number. It's like the wild west out there at the minute. Today I've been out and about keeping a low profile, they say things come in 3's. Between me and the missus this weekend we've probably amassed a greater crime detection rate than the whole of SYP. The Dempsey and Makepeace of Hemingfield.

    You're not wrong.
It's rare that I make party political posts, but undoubtedly the Tories screwed the less affluent parts of the country with the cuts. The Police budget is made up of a mixture of (basically) Central Govt grant and Council Tax. Osborne in particular imposed a 30% ( I forget the exact figure) cut on the Govt grant to all councils across the board, which on the face of it seems fair...everyone taking the same percentage hit...the sting though is that an area like South Yorkshire, due to being much less prosperous will have a budget that will be 80% Govt grant and 20% from Council tax...however a Police Authority in the leafy home counties will have that ratio in reverse meaning that the cut bites much deeper in less prosperous areas...one Police Authority down South is even running a surplus whereas ours can barely put coppers on the street.

It is reality. My girlfriend & my brother live in much richer parts of Leeds. My brother is a Tory & my girlfriend is apolitical, but well off & if a crime happens in their neighbourhoods the coppers are a lot more interested. The politicians know that & it just keeps the problem hidden from them, allowing for them to think the status quo is OK. As a result crimes get worse & worse in bad neighbourhoods. Labour have been as bad as the Tories at times regarding this, which I assume has lead to neo fascists getting support. The thing is, they will just make it 1000 times worse.
