but if they were to be folded they surely would not let L1 be a team light.

Would be interesting to see how that goes, because whoever they promote from league 2 you can guarantee they won’t be prepared for L1 football.

If the Fa and football league enforced their financial fair play rules earlier they wouldn’t be in this mess now. It’s only going to get worse until they start punishing teams for not following rules.

And this is the point. Because they are so weak initially, they end up with a bigger headache later on.

I think they would stop a team going down, but as the link shows it seems Bolton will be ok to start. However I reckon they will drop to L2 as they start with a 12 point deduction .

I think at this late stage they would have to play with just 23 teams and just relegate 3 instead of 4 at the end of the season Bring 4 up from League 2 roll that down so just 1 relegation from league 2 but 2 teams promoted from conference etc..

    Probably wont happen though

they could save the teams who finished highest at the bottom last season. This would save Plymouth and Notts Co. But it seems they have a buyer now , so that will not happen. However I would like to know what the scenario is if in the future a club actually folded in the higher leagues, I wonder what the knock on effect would be.

This has been coming for the past couple of years. Amazing how the FA /EFL allowed it to happen then cant even seem to sort it when it does happen.

its still a good question as to what would happen if a club were to fold. They surely would not let the league be light ?

Sure I’ve read somewhere that what you have described is exactly what would happen

I think they probably would have to play with 23. Imagine the outcry if a team suddenly got promoted? Fans of other clubs would go nuts too, having prebooked travel, accomodation etc for specific matches. It'd be a nightmare to sort at this stage.

No chance that they would change the league structures at this stage, just before the season starts. For a start, it would mess up the whole fixture list across all affected divisions. They would go through the season a team light in L1 and relegate one less team next May.

They'd probably relegate us to fill the spot.

The EFL will do what it always does. Sit on its arse and do nowt until it has no choice, then make summat up that follows the line of least resistance whilst defying logic and common sense.

Would cause a lot of unrest. Oxford would finish the season a week early, imagine knowing you could be promoted or relegated and can't do anything on the day? Rotherham with an extra break before their last game. Donny miss a Tuesday fixture. No Boxing Day game at Sunderland. Bit of a bugger really.
