Yep Jack Shutt who’s from Elsecar. I took him from Elsecar CC to Castleford CC when he was about 17. He ended up getting a contract on the back of 2 good years with us. Top lad is Jack and I’m pleased as punch for him.
He was tiny as a kid but you could tell he was going to be good. He’s got a repeatable action and when he got to 16 and started to grow then Yorkshire became interested in him. Unfortunately kids are not wanted by Yorkshire unless they are big lads. Lots of late developers are lost. Good on Jack though, he works hard at his game and isn’t a billy big time, kind of character. He should have played before now, but Yorkshire being Yorkshire signed a South Aftrican spinner, who’s no better than what we have, which impacts the younger lads getting a chance.
Safe journey home. He spoke to Mark Butcher like he knew him all his life. Made for big stage that lad.
only highlight along with that West Indian keeper, the rest was the same old routine against Lancashire. No good scoring 250 against the historically useless if you can’t chase a modest score like last nights. Think it shows we’re in for another disappointing T20 campaign.
I would just like to comment, on how much work two families put into Elsecar Cricket and football club. Geoff Swallow and Harry Shutt, helped me and loads of others enjoy our sport so much, over the past 60 years plus. Thank you.
Must be confusing when that South African spinner talks about Yorkshire having Jack Shutt coming through.
Good variations in his flight of the ball. Went for a few in his last over but said he wouldn't have done anything differently as he likes to use his variations to keep batsman guessing. Mature head on young shoulders.
