I ll start. Cauley for me had an off day and it showed. Luke Thomas seemed the least effective of our new signings, seemed to lack a little pace for me. Chaplin looked lively and if Wilks plays like that every match we ll have a new hero at Oakwell. Radlinger looks better than Davies on this one game, especially distribution wise. Think Mads and Diaby should be fine once they get more used to each other For me today our passing was poor. And we gave up possession too easily in some instances.Where we did get it together we looked threatening and first half we had more shots on target I'd be more disappointed as a blunt tbh as although they got the win they had to play dirty against our pace and they wont get away with it in the Premiership. No doubt others will have different views but I enjoyed my first game at Oakwell this season.
Thought it was a little flat tbh but I think it being a (friendly) reflected that . The passing at times was sublime and others amateur and lazy . Thought the quality of Sheff Utd shone through not sure it’ll be enough in Prem mind but I hope it is for em , I hate Sheff Utd but love Wilder. Hopefully well iron out the the mistakes to a good degree and the players gel a little better . On that performance alone and I know it isn’t reflective of our coming season (hopefully) I think we’ll be fine and in a good frame to build more next season .
I thought Radlinger didn't have a good game, he worried me when he had possession and twice almost gifted Utd a goal after being chased down, he seemed to think he had all the time in the world.
Same as two seasons ago 3 silly mistakes in midfield punished by goals it was still happening last season in Division 1 but the teams were woeful at finishing if we can stop these mistakes we should be ok didn’t see the 4th goal
Actual scoreline 1-4. Realistic scoreline 1-2. They scored two goals following fouls on our players and the ref gave naff all. Is that how its going to be this year? Concerns have been raised about full back position's, but I am more concerned about the centre halves contributions today.
I thought both centre backs did well. Thomas struggled but overall a promising performance against a strong side. The first goal was down to a poor quick free kick and getting caught in possession, the second was a clear foul not given by the ref. Second half was disrupted by all the changes, so difficult to judge. Impressed by Wilks who looks strong and powerful.
A massive amount of work to do to get the defence up to scratch. Cauley has an off day it that happens. The defence looks abysmal as feared.
Thought we got hammered and there were few if any positives. It was a preseason game, probably doesn't mean anything at all, but judging the performance as a one off it was very poor in all areas. Edit The pitch looked well cool, that's a plus
First goal. Foul against Mowatt - not given. Can't remember which but for one of the goals Andersen is nowhere to be seen and for another he was looking perplexed. I am hoping that things will improve in time.
I thought it was me being biased but I thought one was definitely offside and the other was debatable but it’s clutching at straws really. We were well beaten in the end. I don’t think it’s a bad thing to get beaten in the pre season games to be honest. It’s a reality check and gives the players and coaches better ideas of what a tough championship season might be like. No time for feeling sorry for yourself, dust down and get on with it. Not judging the players on one game, good or bad. Let’s see where we are in 10 games, then throw ourselves off the bridge if we have to. Anyway, it’s a friendly, not the FA cup final, doesn’t really matter if we won 4 1 or lost 4 1. Plenty of teams in the champ we can beat, but Fulham might be just as tough as the blades I reckon. Onwards!
The defence looked dreadful, the midfield ineffective and our strikers pretty feeble. Anyone who mows a football pitch in concentric ovals should be strung up by their ovoid appendages. Apart from that, very encouraging.
Thought we were poor and the Baldes quite impressive. They played with a lot of intensity. We looked very un-Stendel like, very little pressing and lack of athleticism at times. But with so many new players in the team not sure why we would expect anything different against decent opposition. My view is that we should start next week with the team we had last year - ie Cavare, Thiam, Keiffer (if fit), Pinnilos (if fit) and do our best to conceal the fact that we have a totally new defensive triangle. If we need to make changes to last year's team let's do it gradually. But a repeat of today and we'll ship more than four against Fulham.
we were outplayed for all but 15 mins in the 2nd half. they were faster, better organised, sharper, more incisive. a different class. for me Chaplin was the best of the new boys. unlike others on here I thought bambo and mars were ok.
I tried to watch it on iPad but only managed to see 15 minutes, what struck me was how many times we lost possession either by wrong passed place pass or poor control. Wasn’t too worried about passing side as that will come with time. Not sure though if that was true reflection?
I'd agree with Wilder that the scoreline flattered them and good to hear that he felt we pressed well at times. I hope they do go out to win games of football in the Premiership. Need to stop fouling so much though as although it didnt get given against us it will against the " bigger" teams.
