I was sat in lower west stand and honestly, didnt hear clearly was was being sung by ponty end. All I know is the lad had a cracking game and was fired up at the end at the result. And that's it. He seems a genuine lad who was wound up for the game and enjoyed himself and relieved when the final whistle went. I myself was absorbed in the match and couldnt care who is singing what. COYREDS!
Pinnock boots are going to be hard to fill and hes made a great start. Stopping the Dee dars from scoring and hes' well on the way!
He had a great game and i do think his connection with the club is positive. I didn't hear the words of any song but i do care whats being sung as it seems there are many people and organisations today looking for whats wrong with football and picking up on any incident to promote the negative. It is right to drive racism and any other negative issues out of the game. Kick It Out have done a very poor job in driving racism out as for me they only seem to polarise on negatives and i don't believe fans and players are truly connected to that organisation. We have been unfortunately in the news 3 times high profile of late. The alleged Stendel Attack also quoted as being racism, Christie and now Bambo. Some, maybe all avoidable. If we give people the ammunition for sure they will fire at us as a club.
Add the newspaper report about us being the top club in South Yorkshire for arrests of football fans where racism was a factor. The unthinking complicit and the barrack room lawyers defending this song are just helping cement us a reputation as a racist club.
I'd have thought the alleged assault on Daniel Stendel and the Fulham players family is in no way linked to Barnsley fc but the perpetrators. As regards the singing of racist songs. Isn't it the job of the stewards to eject those responsible.Isn't that part of their remit.
Ignoring the Fulham player and the attack on Daniel. The news article labelling Barnsley the most racist club in SY (based on numbers of arrests) and then Kick it Out reporting the club 2 weeks on the trot for this racist chant. That's us 'building a reputation for racism'; and whether you think that's justified or not is irrelevant. I'd love to see fans ejected for this chant / song, but I can also see how the club would be reluctant to send in Security to hundreds of fans singing to single a few out to make an example of.
I do think the fact that there are arrests means the authorities arent sticking their heads in the sand and that's a positive.
I sit in the family enclosure, so the far side of the east upper away from the ponty. Whilst I did hear a bit of a Diaby song, (redacting where necessary so as not to have a racial element on here), what exactly is the tune the song is based on and the words? I struggle to place the words I’ve seen with the tune I think I’ve heard. I’m obviously missing something. (For the record, like with Man Utd fans with the Lukaku song to Made of Stone, whilst I don’t think there’s intent of abuse - it is clearly done with misplaced support - it does, if the words are what I’ve read and which are hopefully to be confirmed by somebody in closer proximity, contain an unacceptable racial stereotype, and it matters not how many of the ponty end or posters on here say it isn’t racist, it is. Simple as that, and it has to stop. Our club will be dragged through the mud whilst it continues and the idiots carrying on singing it regardless are tarring the whole support with the same brush.)
