Fair enough i wasn't down in the concourse so didn't see that. Although last week just after we scored against Fulham was that flares which were set off? As that also caused a bit of aggro in the Ponty end and one little lass had to be escorted out crying because it was irritating her eyes. That's not on at all, when it gets to the point that people who have paid to watch the match are having to leave because of other peoples actions and being inconsiderate that's when there should be repurcussions, Just like today with the smoke bombs before the match and flares at half time.
Could not agree more. Not been today but as a dad with an asthmatic daughter it's a massive concern. Getting worse by season as well. Last year went to Bradford (slightly crap behaviour), Accrington (Great day out), peterboro (pretty crap behaviour) and Southend (Absolutely ridiculous behaviour). Might be my age (44) but I never did this when I was younger. It's like a race to the bottom soon all decent reds fans will stop going away and will be away ends full of nobheads who think this is acceptable behaviour. Family club my arse.....
It gets to that point as soon as a single one is let off though. There is no “when it gets to that point”. As I said earlier, I’ve had to leave matches from the west stand due to one being let off in the ponty end or away stand, because I hen you’re asthmatic, sometimes things just get into your throat and lungs and just make it unbearable, even if ‘normal’ people can’t even smell it.
Mate sent me this.... embarrassing, pissed up 14/15 year olds giving my club a bad name. Looks like there’s lots of footage being taken. Hopefully get some of them banned.
There are people reading this thread, probably even some regular posters, who will be perfectly happy to let smoke bombs off and repeatedly sing the diaby song. They will be along tomorrow to defend the behaviour but they need to sleep off the effects of their shandies and wash their mam’s car for their pocket money first. The sad part of this post is that it isn’t entirely true - it isn’t only kids that are the issue. There are grown men at it, though with the same mental age and ignorance. I will never take my lad to an away game, at least not whilst things remain like this. He’s begged me to go. But whilst the away following is dominated by this immature, laddish, beyond the rules and beyond reproach element, I’m having him nowhere near. The club and SYP need to take drastic action I’m afraid because the current approach of telling them they can’t is just encouraging them to do it all the more. Showing off. And I don’t just mean smoke bombs and songs about the centre back’s penis. We repeatedly see intimidating, aggressive behaviour towards stewards; it was downright bullying today. And it is found hilarious. Best thing is I can guarantee that there will be a thread in the coming months about some stewarding being overzealous and aggressive at some away game with no recognition whatsoever that it has been brought on by the reputation our away following has - and is now proving that they fully deserve. I’m nearly at the point where I hope the efl and fa throw the book at the club as I don’t see them doing anything like enough about it until they are forced. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t blame the club for their existence, but they need to do more to sort it. The diaby song might be new but the away following has been neanderthalic for years. It is spreading to Oakwell now as well.
I went to a few away matches last year and most idiots werent teenagers or even kids in their 20s! Agree a lot seemed to have a go at stewards but the majority were fine. And most times my son came with me. If "normal" fans stop going then it's going to look worse. I know at the Plymouth game one bloke was f ing and blinding and going on about them deserving relegation etc. at a steward as we were waiting at the end for the Sinderland result. Thanked the steward and wished the club well as I left and they know that most fans are nt like that
Well done for posting this Austiniho. It might but I have my doubts. Until our club take meaningful drastic action against these scum bags, we are all held accountable! There’s always been a fraternity of idiots who are more than happy to ruin the clubs reputation and profile but unfortunately it’s now out of hand. As someone else said on here: they might support the same club as us but THAT’S ALL we have in common- they’re a disgrace!
Absolute embarrassment! The offending lyrics don’t even fit! I don’t get why they’d let the smoke off at all, but in the concourse is just plain stupid. Loads of these videos, let’s hope they ban some!
I had about three hours of listening to it yesterday and never once heard any changed/printable words. It is downright embarrassing and I'm ashamed to be associated with these amoebas.
Both SYP and BFC SLo tweeting about this. It’s time that our Pyro fans just grew up and stopped spoiling things for the rest. It’s also time that other fans turn them in. Sick of hearing the excuse that it “generates atmosphere”. They are going to put our club in bother. Edit - just seen this is being discussed elsewhere. Will merge the threads. Conversation · 17h For those asking why the concourse bars were closed at half time the caterers had insufficient staff due to the number taken Ill from the smoke flares prior to kick off. I did try to help distribute plastic glasses at half time for water admittedly from the toilet sinks.
I've not said anything until now as I wanted to see what the general reaction was and am partially re-assured that most on here at least are condemning things. I am diabetic and also recently have had a fall which needs medication. Yesterday, despite having paid £39 for a ticket I had to leave the game early to go out to a shop and take my medication. The only saving grace I guess is that I evidently didn't miss much. I have gone to most Barnsley away games for around 35 years and barely missed any over the last five or six seasons but I have seen things change massively during this last period to the extent where I'm seriously questioning going in future. What is more and more clear is that, particularly in the 'short-haul' away games is that its not a handful of idiots, its a few hundred. Unless there is concerted action I can see them being the only ones left - the three I go with are now also questioning whether they need to keep putting up with it. Other things that I don't get from yesterday:- 1) There were only four turnstiles open and yet the level of inspection on entry was ridiculous - old men with bottles of water being castigated and having it confiscated, whilst pissed up idiots chanting racist songs with bulging pockets full of flares were waved through untouched. 2) Police officers stood around doing absolutely nothing whilst the same idiots walked blithely past them a foot away chanting racist songs. I couldn't believe it. 3) Elderly people on the tram out for a day's shopping getting verbally abused by the idiots in full view and earshot of police officers who do absolutely nothing. 4) How that death-trap of a ground can in this day and age still be operating - even without racist amoebas letting flares off the access and circulation in that concourse it is not safe. 5) How stewards etc can clear a path to protect the catering outlets at half-time but not for the law-abiding supporters at the start. 6) Lastly - how and why BFC still sells tickets to the idiots - they must surely know who they are. Not only is there CCTV in and around most away grounds, they are the same faces all the time. I'd rather we just blanket-banned two or three hundred of them and if away crowds dwindled for a bit then so be it. Numbers would soon increase again when decent people realised it was safe to go. I have not mentioned the idiots themselves, they are just selfish, mostly cowardly (about twenty of them ran like hell when confronted with three or four handy looking Wednesday blokes yesterday) and contemptible. Maybe they are a product of society but between the club, SYP and the way the EFL tolerates things they have an environment to flourish in. Please BFC and the authorities (SYP - it is your job to actually take action against racism when it is being spouted a foot from your officers) take action before supporting our club away from home becomes a 'no-go area'.
I agree Fired but would also question as to why SYP see themselves purely as a 'social commentator' rather than actually the body that needs to get off its backside and uphold the law, both in terms of prevention and catching and meting out justice to those who break it. I don't pay my taxes towards a police force whose principal apparent contribution to solving the problem is a 'tweet'.
Whoever set the pyro off inside the concourse should be banned for life. Dangerous The away end at Hillsborough isn’t fit for purpose, I’ve been in there when we’ve sold out & you can barely move, then you’ve got people smoking & the airs terrible. It’s the only time I’ve ever been in an away end & genuinely been worried. I can understand why the capacity’s been reduced if it’s for health & safety reasons. What I can’t understand is the lack of communication from Sheff Wednesday & South Yorkshire Police. Lots of people already turning up to the ground in a bad mood because their mates couldn’t get a ticket & they couldn’t arrange transport to the last minute with not knowing how many of them are going etc isn’t helpful. Why couldn’t they have just said 2,500 maximum 3 weeks ago? What’s changed in the meantime?
