@fired, if by chance you feel like writing to the club about this, rest assured I'll happily contribute to drafting the letter, and I'll happily sign it. In fact, I suspect you'll get quite a lot of signatures. In my opinion this issue is far bigger that football, win or lose. If I were in charge at the club I'd be absolutely horrified to read that several fans refuse to travel to away games, and are considering giving up going to home games. Somebody sometime soon is going to have to do something about it.
The disturbing thing is that all the events happen under our nose and nobody seems to want to do anything about it. Our own seats smashed. Both the games at oakwell have had smoke canisters set off. (100% record)all under our nose. If I was a betting man there will be one there tomorrow and the only response we see is people getting thrown out.
On rare occasions (very rare) I agree with YN but on this occasion (and whilst I know I wind a few up on this site) I cannot believe he seriously believes what he has posted on this topic. I agree to a small extent people have become over sensitive and over apologetic about things that occured in the past which obviously our current generation has no control over but we are talking about the 'here and now' Young Nudger you are ' miles off' the general consensus here and, whilst opinions are opinions you are WRONG, WRONG, WRONG if you condone the behaviour (ILLEGAL!) of a section of our fans especially when this thread highlights that their behaviour is driving genuine supporters away from BFC and endangering the clubs reputation. If it WAS an attempt at a wind up I score it 0/10
The ban on flares was a result of a fan being killed I have a problem bearing in mind they have a resulted in serious injury and a fatality
But people clearly don't have a problem with this. Yes of course it's not the 'same' as in a stadium but it's a flare nonetheless. Someone at the club appeared to think that it would add to the occasion on the bus, that it would create a spectacle. Well i guess that's the thought process of the 'youths' fetching these into the stadiuns too.
Fixed that for you. The scout group down the road from me has a massive firework display, does that mean it’s ok for the teenagers round here to terrorise old folks with bangers? I mean it’s the same thing, right?
I've known plenty of kids injured using fireworks when trying to emulate what they have seen during organised displays.
Really sad to read some of this. I know it's easier said than done @fired @Fonzie but please don't let the morons drive you away from something you love. Don't let them win. The club and the majority of fans are on your side and it's them we want to drive away from games, not you It's not about the football for them like it is us. They weren't born when we started going and they are not welcome if they act how they do. This is our club, not theirs
Simple fact is they.are banned at football grounds - someone else has deemed it a worry to ban them. You can bring this up over and over but it won't change the fact it is illegal in a football ground. Like posting a picture of someone drinking at a cricket match because someone got thrown out for drinking a pint while watching a game from their seat at a football match. It's banned at football someone was killed - don't do it - it's not hard!!
Not only is letting pyrotechnics off illegal it's dangerous to people's health in confined spaces . Why should it be allowed for certain individuals to put other people's health at risk by setting flares off.
I know it's not her parents' fault for the smoke bomb, but I wouldn't advise taking a young girl into that side of the Ponte smoke bomb or no smoke bomb.
I've been at Barnsley many many times where the atmosphere was electric, the stadium was bouncing. Can't remember a single one where a flare was used.
Agree but I take issue with the line this is our club not theirs. It's for the people of Barnsley and anyone else that wants to support the football club. Just because you've supported a club for x number of years doesn't trump anyone else that pays for a ticket
Absolutely true. I'm not saying I'm a better fan than anyone else - there'll always be someone who's been to more games than you, or spent more money following us. I just mentioned it in my original post as a point of reference - it wasn't meant as a "I'm a reight fan me" post. Whether you're 5 or 85, you have the same right to watch your football team.
Agree without question. I have never intimated anything else, quite the contrary. I know when i was a lad i idolised my favourite footballers and many kids without fear (or understanding of consequence) will seek to emulate their heroes actions.
I agree and didn't mean it to sound like that. I mentioned that to highlight the fact that these idiots acting like they have a monopoly on what supporting Barnsley is need to have respect for older fans and realise going to the football is about more than being rowdy, pissed and antisocial.
