by, or for the Premier League. Maybe it'll catch on? https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/49319480 "Well, London-based investment company Carteret Analytics think they have found a formula for footballers, and even use their system to advise three Premier League clubs on potential new signings."
Is it me but couldn't understand the piece fully. Was she saying Trippier was valued at £61m or was that the sum Spurs had been asking for?
Not worded well is it, but I think she is stating that the software (spreadsheet!) valued him at £61 therefore Spurs sold for lower than they should have.
Listening to a Villa official on Sky sports this morning was like listening to what Conway/GG have been saying for years
What a load of codswallop. You can assess the ability of a player using analytics, but to try and put an accurate value on them is impossible. What about shirt sales? What about wages? Image rights? Unless they're comparing values to historical player sales (which just self perpetuates the madness of transfer fees and isn't really valuing them), they must be assessing value by reference to the cash flows success on the field generates off it? Are they saying that buying Pepe increases Arsenal's chance of finishing in the Champions league places by 3.27%, and that they're 1.52% more likely to reach the last 16, and calculate the prize money from that? He's going to attract 2,412 more season tickets holders and 1,242 more pay on the gate holders on average over the life of his contract? What a gimmick.
I don't know if its the same company/people, but I'm sure there was reference to Brentford spinning off their model to advise other clubs. Can't recall detail, but pretty sure I picked that up a good while back, maybe when Patrick was still with us.
Maybe they do it through these guys then. I was trying to work out who the others could be (if we are one of them). Brentford seem very likely, and given that you mentioned it was when Patrick was in charge then they could well have been in a certain L Johnson's address book when he went to Bristol City.
I think it was also mentioned we might consider something in due course. But it's a very loose recollection. I suspect Bristol City are one of them, given they are operating very similarly to Brentford having had the massive cash injection to fast forward the process. Not sure what other clubs it could be. I don't think anyone quite operates like we do, but hard to know for sure. Just judging on ages and ponds we've dipped into. Austrian league seems one for sure (and Admira Wacker in particular) given we've signed 2 of their players and one was all but complete.
