I know we lost to Wednesday and were comfortably beaten but even then it was against a well organised, established Championship side with some very good players and we did have some chances. Even then, the level of that performance should have been enough to see off a Div 2 side.
It was commentary only on iFollow last night so cannot compare but it sounded absolutely dire and would probably have seen Wednesday score double figures. So one good performance, one mediocre and one dire.
Lets see what Saturday brings before we start writing suicide notes eh?

He’s had most of the players for a full pre season , he knew Moore was going that’s why he didn’t feature , we tried to sign a big lad but it didn’t come off but he has already indicated he’s not fond of the long ball . The success last season was in part based on getting the ball forward as quick as possible, which Lindsey and Pinnock facilitated , if you lose the ball in the opponents half then the press comes in . Against Fulham we did it expertly , against Wednesday we didn’t do it holding possession in our own half reluctant to play a pass further than a few yards , when we did it was straight to a Wednesday player and our best striker missed a sitter . Either Stendel is telling them to do something that they aren’t capable of doing ( possession football in our own half) or players are ignoring Stendel . Either way it’s for Stendel to sort it out for Saturday, in the scheme of previous BFC managers I don’t think he’s been badly done to at all in the close season

My point is that he needs the raw material. On the evidence of last night he’s got the raw but I’m unsure he’s got the material. You also appear to be ignoring the fact that he publicly stated he needed experience. No doubt you’ll be one of the first to start sharpening the knives.

Don’t know where you get the justification for that last sentence , I’m not the one writing the squad off after two bad performances, I think they are capable but based on the last two performances tactically they have been out of sorts , that’s down to Stendel , as much as I like the guy he’s not beyond criticism but I think he will put it right but if he goes all Spackman like we did in the second half at Wednesday he’s going to get criticised

Apologies if you think it was unjustified. In reality we simply disagree as to whether it's tactics or ability. Like many people, I'm pretty sick of the fire sale that happens every time we get anything like a promising team together (and Stendel may well share my feelings regarding this). The excuse added to the list this time that "Moore asked to leave" because the "release clause" or "final year of contract" didn't apply, has not in any way helped quell my nagging doubts about the way the club is being run and/or the motives behind those running it. Taking a punt on promising youngsters, in the hope of cashing in at some future point, is simply a gamble that either works or doesn't. Last night's evidence has left me wondering whether it's the latter this time. We'll see, but I genuinely hope I'm proven to be wrong.

I didn’t go to either Altrincham or Crawley away but honestly it was a lot worse than Chester at home. Chester were a division below Carlisle but that was a pretty even game, if anything we were the slightly better side even though we were poor. Last night was atrocious, they were the better side by some distance.

Like the Shrewsbury game you mention, it was poor but we’d been the better side & they hit us on the counter late on through Jordan Clark.

Honestly it wasn’t like that last night. We couldn’t string passes together. The centre backs constantly gave the ball away playing what should’ve been simple balls into the midfielders. The wide men & forwards were up against league 2 defenders yet really struggled to create chances.

The stats may show we had a few shots on target but they were from outside the box & straight at the keep with little power. In terms of clear chances created it was probably about 10-3 in their favour.

I’ve only been old enough to properly understand football for probably the last 15 years & I’d say it’s the worst I’ve seen from a Barnsley side in that time.

What’s annoying is there’s so many spots up for grabs in this side yet the new lads didn’t look interested at all.

That team, last night, should have been able to put Carlisle to bed. Simple. There’s enough quality in that team to be a top 6 L1 team in its own right.

Either they weren’t up for it or were being asked to do something they couldn’t do.

You can’t blame our transfer policy for last night, as these cup games at this early stage always attract a bit of a mixed team who don’t always play together.

Think we just have to put it behind us, learn from it and move on. I expect Saturday to bring a reaction - and it’s needed as Charlton are a decent team.

Why did the sky guy say we were impressive and not to be surprised if we levelled the scores when 0 2 down if it was so bad ?
