A much improved display from Tuesday night, without reaching the levels against Fulham. I didn't see why the Charlton penalty was awarded, but accept that doesn't mean it shouldn't have been given. However, how the appalling referee didn't give one to us I don't know. Two classy, but totally different, goals from Woodrow & Chaplin looked to have given us the three points. Charlton were a typical Lee Bowyer team and the 'referee' was quite happy to allow them to get away with their antics all match. I don't know who the official MOTM was, but I though Sibbick was decent for us. Not the best day at the office today, but certainly not the worst either. Onwards and upwards.
Absolutely Kev. 3 mins to go and we blow our chance of 3 points. I never saw the incident properly but felt sick when the ref pointed to the spot. So close yet so far. Hopefully better luck on Tuesday.
Ben William's was MOTM. Charlton always looked like they had a goal in them, Williams did some clever passes and I wasn't surprised we conceded near the end. Since Daniel sounded quite upbeat about it (unlike Woodrow who was fuming!) I'll take my cue from him
I'm more annoyed about this result than the one against Wednesday. Saw plenty of good though today, back line seem to be communicating better, Bahre was a bit more vocal and both forwards scored. Think we'll be ok.
Decent game and a good day all round. Had a couple of pints with @arabian_ian and his pals in The Manx and the company of a mate of mine who used to travel home and away with me until he decided to scrape a living in Los Angeles. He'll be back next Saturday before flying back. Finished off a good week, my son got his place at University of Birmingham Medical School with his A Level results. I'd just suggested to the lads I sit with that we should make a change with Chaplin to go off, then he slots one in. Nice to see us take a couple of chances today, but I thought Charlton started well and we went in front slightly against the run of play. The players need unconditionally backing at the moment, I don't want to see confidence drain away from them and hope the mindset from last season remains, principally that we aren't scared of losing to the extent we aren't brave enough to go out and attack teams. We looked good at times going forward again today and I'm seeing enough through the team to be optimistic that we'll be OK this season. And being OK shouldn't be underestimated.
Many congratulations to your son. An extremely proud moment for you and your family. It's always good to hear of a thoroughly decent poster, who hasn't had the best of times in the past couple of years or so, finially getting news as good as this.
Agree a far better performance, got the ball forward a lot quicker , would have liked to see the ball played into the box from wide areas quicker but overall great performance, no Spackman periods . Thought Charlton forwards were tricky and a hand full but our young defence did well . The ref was just bizarre
Thanks mate for those kind words. The boy done good, only downside is he'll miss much of the next 5 years at Oakwell, and cost me a fortune in the process! Without trying to sound too sentimental, whilst the last couple of years have been a sense check on what really does matter, Oakwell, Barnsley FC and the folk who are a fortnightly part of life, have been a big help, as has this forum. Not too giddy when we win, not too down when we lose. We might not be Barcelona, but there's something really quite comforting in having the club as a regular focus in my life. I might be giving my Twitter self away here, but when I renewed my season ticket back in April, 29th successive season, I tweeted something along the lines of BFC being like a 3 legged dog - not perfect, but loved unconditionally and I'd be lost without it.
