Thing is CR, by moving the pension age further away they are taking personal choice out of peoples hands unless they’re are financially strong enough not to need a state pension.

I've been a Postie 36 years and it is getting harder not just my age either. I can't see me lasting another 4 years never mind age 75.

My brother had to give up being a postie on health grounds a few years ago and he was only in his 30s . Sure he said he was walking 20+ miles a day and it was wrecking his body .

My dad's paid in for 56 years and I'm.sure he's more than paid for it. He's not taken it as he chooses to work. We should be able to retire with a state pension at a decent age

My mum and dad still work in their late 70s in the exhaustive heat of the long Greek summer. 75 is ridiculous though (unless you're fit and happy to continue). What's the average life expectancy of a barnsley male? 78?

When I started work at grimethorpe pit 1972 age 15 my retirement age was forecast as age 65 and that’s now gone up to 67 obviously trying to age more and more out of pension bracket

It's that right to manage malarkey . If we make our workers do x y or z they ll be more productive , with no consideration for said worker and the effects of the extra workload . No wonder they could nt wait to privatize the post office.......

Unfortunately a lot of us missed out on the opportunity to work in nationalised industries (just) and therefor missed out on the comparatively big pensions available. If, like myself, you have worked in construction all your working life then you’ve always had to fund a ***** private pension and subsequently I expect to die at work although the house I’ve renovated will sort the kids out. Luckily for them I’m prepared to work 16/17 hour days so I would imagine my body would be for the knackers yard anyway at retirement age.

Agreed. But my point is that when we're our parents' age we'll have paid in just as much as them, and potentially more, and still be 10 years off getting one. My point is just that it's a benefit like any other, not an amount of money that we're putting aside.

Good point - I think I chose my words poorly! Totally prepared for the possibility might have been better.

The tories are really doubling down on this big demographic problem they've created for themselves, aren't they? Appealing solely to pensioners and homeowners is all very good now, but I'm really not sure that they'll survive much past about 2025 without serious reinvention.

Both age groups are entitled if they work for it - should be a given in a country which is in the top 10 richest countries in the world. When government has people against each other they have done a great job of delectimg people's attention from who is really to blame.

Nothing new though is it pal? The problem is that whoever is in government has no interest whatsoever in closing the gap though they will give it half arsed lip service. When my parents retired after working just shy of 50 years a piece, the financial advisor told them that they’d get a slightly better pension if they got divorced.
    How’s that right?
