Why did we concede the crucial first goal?

Tossing around at the back, again.

I'm going to have a quiet word with DS. Rex has beautiful brown eyes & would look great on the team photo.

Sorry bud but nobody gave an 8/10 performance tonight. I’m struggling to give a 7. There were a few acceptable 6/10s dotted amongst a lot of dross, mainly in front of the back four.

I agree with McGeehan onwards just about. Bit hard on Chaplin as he had nothing to work with.

I worry with Ben Williams in the team. He looks ok on the ball, he puts a cracking cross in, and he was given motm at the ground on Saturday (I didn’t agree), but we consistently concede crosses into the box from that side, passes inside from that area of the field too. It can’t be coincidence.

Sibbick is getting pelters, some of it perhaps warranted, but he’s a much better defender than Ben - and I’m not a huge fan of Sibbick so far so that’s saying something.

If Stendel won’t play Cavare at right back it must be because he’s worried defensively - so I don’t get why Williams would play if Pinillos is fit. Maybe they are nursing Dani back but he was one of the few to come out with any credit last Tuesday.

It was poor generally tonight but I see the full backs as weak links for different reasons, and Cam McGeehan has to bloody learn quick else he’ll lose his place to Styles never mind the returning Dougall, whenever that might be.

We are crying out for some experience in the middle of the park. It was asked for too.

I doubt they are, in fact I’m convinced they won’t be given we only sign young players with potential profit, but I really hope they are looking at players still without a club who could come in short term. Even to train with them day in day out if they didn’t play much would be a great help. A bit of knowhow and nous.

The investment might be seen as dead money - but if their presence helps to improve those around them the club benefit that way.

Who’s available? I’ve just heard Gary O’Neill on talksport, he’s 36 mind you so maybe a little too extreme but there is surely somebody available who’d come and do a job?

You can’t do it in Champ. Sat/Tues/Sat brings in fatigue. You have to freshen it up in places. Stendel knows energy levels and prob wants Wilks fresh for Sat.

    My justifications of the 3 "8"s -

Radlinger, great save from a good long range effort. Commanded the box well & couldn't be blamed for either goal. Very quick off his line to save us on a few occasions, but had no chance with the second. Only time he was beaten for a cross was when he was fouled.

Diaby / Anderson - dealt with Jutkiewicz all game. First goal was poor ball from McGeehan to Anderson. Anderson out of position & Sibbick is left marking Jutkiewicz in the box & is out muscled.

As far as Williams is concerned, he was caught out of position once, early in the first half & Anderson came to his rescue. After that there was little down that side, till we were chasing the game in the last 10. All the balls in were Roberts long throughs & free kicks, that Anderson & Diaby dealt with well. Having Thiam on the wing in front of him gives him little cover, but he managed to get forward & put two great crosses in, that if Woodrow was in the team, we more than likely would have converted.

Don't want to bash McGeehan, but he looks badly off form at the moment. He had one good opportunity when he nicked the ball off Roberts & went to cross, when for me, if he was more confident he would have shot. If the keeper parried, Chaplin may have had a tap in. Instead the cross was dealt with comfortably.

Playing Chaplin up front was a mistake. He hasn't got either strength or pace & may as well not have been there. Wilks would have been a better option for me, if Schmidt isn't ready. I can critIcise DS for that. Looked like the old days of Bradshaw up front on his own, but worse.
