...isn't exactly reading the riot act. "We are very disappointed, because we played a good away game. Birmingham had few chances, and although we didn't create many chances, we could have won the game. "Like the last two games, we have played OK, and it's hard for our young team to play here, it's a difficult game, and I'm very frustrated. "For 70 minutes we played well, and played better in the second half than Birmingham. The goal changed the match so much, and we need to learn so much from this, go on and try to win games. "We became nervous after the first goal, lost our structure, and it's difficult to turn that around."
I cant imagine Daniel reading the riot act. Hes more a disappointed sort of a guy. I think he wants to protect the players from getting stick and that's a good thing in a manager imo. He's still learning on the job too
Before the glaring mistake there didn’t look to be a goal in the game. Our passing wasn’t crisp or accurate enough and their hoofs up top weren’t really getting them any joy. It had 0 0 written all over it. Individual errors have cost us 3 points in 2 games and individual errors can be worked out. Can you imagine Lindsay marking their centre forward yesterday there would have been double the number of free kicks or worse?
Fair assessment imo. I don’t think we went there for a draw, that’s not who he is or who we are at the moment. We just struggled to break them down. Before the first goal I was more than happy, we’d prevented them from having any chances and we were the side on the up and looking the most likely to score. We were the better team until that point. One mistake and that’s ruined. Not a good performance but a lot of positives to take from the game. Seen enough to think we’ll get better and survive comfortably this season.
Spot on. At no point was I watching it and thought, jesus we're going straight back down. We will grind out the results and stay up.
We don't have the players to grind out results... We have too many short tippy tappy types.. the recruitment team again have brought in too many similar types of players.
Need time to gel We will settle on who are the best players and they will get together as a team A few are playing individually and not as a team
To be fair, if a manager has a style they want to play, you want players to have the ability to play that way or develop that way. I've no issue with the possession aspect necessarily as long as we use it better when we have it. We've brought in very physical centre halves and a lot of pace out wide. What we have brought in though are a lot of 20-21 year olds and that's going to take a lot of time to build up. Personally, I'd have looked for a few more 24-26 year olds who can organise better and are just a bit more assured. If you look at Mowatt, you can see a very technical player but one who is confident and knows what he's trying to do. We'll see, but I think if we could just bring Dougall (once fit) in for McGeehan and get Woodrow back, that would be a more solid looking core.
For the first time I feel despondent by Stendel's comments and analysis and they are concerning if that is how we are going to approach away games. Birmingham restricted the number of chances they created, not us, as they offered very little threat and didn't have much quality until Montero came on. I don't see a better opportunity of picking up 3 points away from home on the fixture list. Equally, as with the past 4 games, we have looked limited in our own attacking play and haven't created much/enough. We lack a focal point in attack (even when Woodrow plays) that a Fletcher, Taylor and Jutkiewicz have given our last 3 championship opponents and it is why the wide men and midfield players are going back and not playing forward. the inexperience is showing with players like Bahre looking really good one game that equally as bad the next. No leader on the pitch driving us forwards and we paid the price in the end for not imposing ourselves on the opposition. The home team were bound to get a chance at some point and once they scored then it was a question of how many. It is dispiriting to see a side transform from one of the best attacking sides in league 1 to possibly the worst in the championship. Unless we increase our threat and goals we will go down and it won't be due to the defence. I wasn't too concerned at the time about the sale of Moore but that is looking like a very poor decision at this moment. Saturday is already a massive game and it will not be easy. Luton have had arguably harder fixtures and have added experience to their squad. I expected a slow start and accept it takes time to build a team but the approach for me was all wrong last night....it was like we were playing Real Madrid
We were absolutely terrible last night, what’s the point in shouting them out in public though, they aren’t going to morph into Ronaldinho, ronaldo and messi by Saturday. I thought our actual game plan was ok, we couldn’t lump it long as we had a small striker, we had to work it around there big lads which we did for 15 mins at the start of the second half. Unfortunately the defence are terrible.
What takes pressure off the defence is the ability to score goals at the other end. We have failed to score in 3 of our 5 fixtures so far, including a home game against league 2 opposition....that is of more concern to me, especially as we haven't looked like scoring
I don't expect him to bash the players in public. I would expect home truths to be said in private though. What he says to the press and what he says to the players will be different a fair bit of the time. What's worrying is the line up and tactics we played last night stinked of a Morais team.
I don't either but his comments I was referring to were not about the players but to do with the approach to the game 'good away performance' and 'we could have won the game' - playing like that we won't.
