We were supposed to be taking the grandson to Yorkshire Wildlife Park tomorrow, but none of us will be comfortable in the expected heat, so we're looking for other ideas, preferably with stuff to do for the young 'un and somewhere to sit with a bit of shade for the old 'uns. Does anyone have any ideas, reasonably local? Ps. Oakwell is a no-go as the football hating wife and mother-in-law are in tow.
There s shady parts at the Wildlife park when you want your picnic. Cannon Hall was red hot today when we took the dog for a walk. Maybe Nostell priory theres an adventure playground there.
Wentworth garden centre.... Obviously apart from the plants its got a good play area for the kids and animals etc. Nice place.
Nostell Priory is well worth a visit, nice un cool in the house a nice play area in the shade of the trees a nice walk round the lake and a court yard for picnics or summet from the cafe.
Wheelgate in Edwinstow near Mansfield about an hours drive . Loads of play areas and a water park . Brilliant for cooling off .
Eureka? When you buy a ticket, if you register it online you get free entry for a full year. I would say he’s the perfect age for there.
I’d second wheelgate, it’s just off the A614 past Sherwood Forest. The outdoor water bit will be lovely for the young ‘un in the weather, and theres places to shelter from the sun
Have you been recently? Went a couple of years ago with the kids and it was a bit run down, has it improved?
I went last year a couple of times with my friends and their toddlers. I’m not sure what to compare it to as it had been around 22 years since I’d been before as a child myself. They were too young so spent the whole time just trying to entertain them so I didn’t really notice to be honest.
If it’s still going Pirates Cove in Wombwell. Some of my finest memories (before I lost most of the use of my legs) was in Pirates Cove.
Elsecar heritage centre has a good play area for the little one, then have a look round the antique centre and little shops there.
