It was a terrible start against Luton due to poor defending basically and being second out of the blocks. But to me the formation and team selection was wrong anyway. As an attacking force we were none existent until the second half. It is taking us so long to get the ball into the final third of the pitch that opponents have the time to organise their defence and then we have no recognised forward (s) with the physical presence to hang on to the ball or hold the ball up for support. The lack of pace of Bahre or Thiam meant when we played the ball to either they went nowhere or were disposessed too easily too often. Only Wilks looked like he had a goal in him. Second half changes brought us to life at last but too little too late by then. Dont mention Moore etc cos we all knew if Woodrow got injured we'd be buggered and ain't seen Schmidt yet. Dont know where we go from here cos all DS.can do is shuffle the pack and change the formation.Bahre never a leader /captain though , Mc Geehan or Mowatt has more of a capains personality and the players need to stand up and be counted for the fight this season was always going to be. We live in hope.
Although not being a big fan of his I thought thiam was our best attacking threat second half. Wilkes apparently wants to be a striker so maybe that's why he was played up top, he scored so I can't see an argument against it
Having listened to DS post Luton, there seems to be more to the Woodrow and Cavare mystery than we have been led to believe . If everything was as it should, both should be in the starting line up next week but whatever the reason it appears they won't be . It's not a good situation at the start of the season and needs sorting soon.
They have said Woodrow is injured. They have said Cavare isnt. Cavare was watching the match on Saturday. And that's all we know for definite.
It wasn't so much as what I was told, but the reaction I got when i asked about it. It involved a pffttt and an eye roll.
A striker, this being someone who understood how to find time and space in the box to attempt a shot would have got a bucketful Saturday in the second half. They were rattled. We couldn’t exploit this.
