Being a yo-yo club does not fulfil the plan which is to increase the value of the club. No one is happy at the current state of the football, any suggestions that our owners don’t care are at best speculation and at worst politically induced paranoia.
Very flawed logic there, any player performing well in the top end of the Championship would be worth significantly more than a player with one season in league one. If you take the three Amigos who left for circa £3 million each, if they were in a top 6 Championship side, they would have been worth around £10 million each(Moore as a striker possibly more), that + the £6 million for being in a higher league, increased revenue from sponsorship etc far outweighs any savings on wages
Was it a ruthless dismantling or a number of our better players wanting to cash in on their stock? No point keeping those who don't want to be at Oakwell. It's the nature of things. Lindsay and Davies will be no loss. Both Mads and Diaby will be better than him. Both new keepers are better than Davies. We have financial rules, the owners are up front on that. Our business model has to fit those rules. We may well be a 'yo-yo' club until those rules change - but I'd rather be that than a Bury or Bolton.
Constant references to Bury and Bolton, who have been mismanaged appallingly, are becoming tiresome. A season of failure due to an inexperienced, young squad will not be deemed a success, despite a healthy bank balance and the fanbase will dwindle as a result...
We are but five matches into the season. I think this doomsday scenario projected by so many on this forum this weekend is tiresome.
I think you make some good points about players wanting to go being allowed to go. What was needed at the end of the season was for us to keep together the essential elements of the side and add to it with better players. I still don’t understand the Davies decision and you’re probably right about Lindsay. We should have kept Pinnock and we should have kept Moore. We needed a defensive midfielder another striker two centre backs to replace Lindsay and Jackson and a left back. Instead we let good players go and binged on young talent. It may and I fervently hope it does work out well, but going back to the title of the thread, it’s an experiment.
I know I keep saying this, but can you name me one player currently at Oakwell who wouldn’t want to leave if they were offered more money elsewhere? The club has a choice. It is making that choice. We sink or swim on that basis.
Well I interpret it as some of us being seriously concerned regarding the things we are seeing at the club we all care about. And anyway, there wouldn’t be much point in having a forum if we all agreed. Would there?
There were some on here talking playoffs after the opening match. All we are seeing is the reaction to results.
What else are we supposed to react to? I didn't see the Fulham game because I was on holiday, but don't you think it's increasingly looking like a bit of a one-off?
It’s certainly a one-off as it’s the only game we have won of five. My point was regards the hysterical reactions since Saturday 3:02pm onwards. It’s because we’ve lost a couple of games. All the conspiracy theories and the blame game since Saturday is some fans’ way of dealing with the fact they don’t handle defeats.
I’m not going to mention how long I’ve been going to Oakwell because it tends to attract derision, but trust me, I’ve witnessed lots of defeats. It’s the manner of the defeats, and the quite justifiable concerns about the way the club has prepared for life in a tough league that has caused some of us to react the way we have. I honestly think we deserve better but, if it does turn out that our concern is unwarranted then there will be no-one happier than me.
I think the happiest will be those who aren’t going over the top at the first dodgy run of results in well over a year.
Perhaps. If it turns out that we weren’t going over the top how will you feel? I’ll feel terrible because I genuinely care about the club.
But you are going over the top. I don't need further time to declare that. We've lost three games won one and drawn one. It's not great as a start to the season admittedly and I felt we were blown away in a sorry display on Saturday. But questioning the motives of the owners already? Crying over players sold? Slagging off and booing our new players? Blaming the Head Coach? It's all very over the top and shows a distinct inability to handle adversity. The game on Saturday was awful as was the Birmingham collapse. Why is it acceptable to then kick the club you say you support to bits in those bleak moments? Waving your scarf and singing Allez Allez Allez as we win promotion takes no effort. Backing your team through struggle is clearly for some much harder.
It’s so funny to think that I’m only there for the’ Allez Allez Allez’ moments when I consider the fact that, in 53 years of supporting the club, I’ve enjoyed 7 promotions. Anyway, this is getting too personal, so perhaps we should leave it there.
Your list is quite ridiculous. Very few posters on here are doing all of those. Many are expressing concern about the squad we have assembled this season, but your post is the one that’s way over the top. I never boo, don’t blame the manager, not questioning the motives of the owners, but do think they’ve been naive in their recruitment. These players definitely have potential, but fear it won’t be realised this season...
You've mis-read the post or omitted context for your own reasons. The post said it's easy to wave scarves and sing that song when we're winning and getting promoted. Much harder to back the club through harder moments. It didn't single you out. But good day to you. Hope your worrying subsides soon.
