Looks like Johnson is considering dumping them to get an agreement by reverting to the idea of a NI only backstop. Considering that NI voted 56% - 44% Remain it couldn't happen to a nicer bunch. They've been the tail that wagged the dog for too long.

Are you referring to the DUP or Northern Irish as a whole?

The DUP, because they evidently don't represent the views of their whole community on brexit.

Puritanical nutters who should not have a place in the 21st century politics or life.

It's beautifully ironic that the biggest thing stopping Brexit and 'freedom from the EU' is the Northern Ireland issue, which was made a satellite state of the UK and refused freedom itself.

    Colonialism is bad.

And even if a bridge was built (probably taking between 10 and 20 years), the end result would be no different to what we have now - the mode of transport makes no difference to the application of tariffs, customs, open borders, or any of the other things that the backstop attempts to solve.

Maybe they should build a Panama Style canal all across the border and fill in the Irish Sea across to Scotland. :)

Maybe once all the Brexit fans realise we give more money to Northern Ireland than we do to the EU they might be happy to wave goodbye...,
