Series called st elsewhere about a hospital years ago. There was a serial killer chasing someone through hospital corridors that has made me **** myself every time I visit anyone at the general.
Book - I read The Rats by James Herbert when I teenager and it gave me nightmares - couldnt sleep with the book in my room - some of his other books are a bit scary too Film - surprised no ones mentioned the original version of The Wicker Man - maybe not the most terrifying but definitely the most disturbing Honourable mentions to The Ring (original version ) and the Excorcist and also Psycho
Book - 1984 by George Orwell. Truly terrifying because it was a realistic projection of where society was heading. So terrifying that societies really started to question the role of a centralised control system that operates without checks and balances. Who polices the thought police. Forget monsters, ghosts, psychos with knives etc. 1984 was real terror. ...and Paul Gibbs playing left back for us.
Don't really watch horror films so mine are perhaps tame and were all as a kid; 'Don't Look Now' - that little red dwarf Jaws - did I jump when the head pops out! Didn't dare go in the sea for years. I remember people in the audience standing up and cheering when the shark is blown up at the end. I also found the rape scene in Deliverance disturbing.
Film: Dead of Night (1945): Watched it at an early age, then saw it about 10 years ago. Still scares me. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0037635/?ref_=nv_sr_1?ref_=nv_sr_1 Also the original "Woman in Black", the TV film.
Saw Jaws at the fleapit at Kirkby as a kid. There was a collective gasp when a trainer wearing foot appeared through a hole in a boat lol. Woman in black is also very atmospheric, and The Hostel is just gory.
John Wyndham books were well ahead of their time, Day of the Triffids, the Chrysalids & Midwich Cookoos, all from the 50's
Another great non-footy thread! I love this genre but have never heard of "Threads" or "Signalman" which seem to be getting a fair few votes. Threads has 100% on Rotten Tomato's which is pretty impressive. I've ordered it on DVD. Watched Signalman on YouTube as the whole thing is there. I thought it started very good but was a bit tame/predictable at the end, wouldn't rush to see it again but glad I watched it nonetheless. Keep 'em coming fella's!
And soon the darkness - film The Keep - film The Thing - Carpenter's version - film Dr Who - are you my mummy terrifies the kids Stalingrad by Anthony Beevor _ book. Your personal brilliance as a soldier mattered not. Sickening.
