Refer to my previous statement on the same subject nudge. YOU go to your local councillors surgery and spout off. Instead of slagging folk off. And if you then feel the same way crack on. But as you seem to be unable to listen to any reason that doesn't suit, I don't hold out much hope . Awaiting the same diatribe for the next home game after this. Or perhaps you feel the council will not need to advise. As you should know the route off by heart by then.

You're wrong, it has been considered in great depth with surveys undertaken and exhibits and consultation taking place. I myself commented to them that the original plans, which consisted of just lifts at the Market Gate end, were totally unsuitable. Clearly this, and I suspect many other similar comments were taken on board and the plans were changed.

Network Rail insisted on the timescales to shut the crossing otherwise they wouldn't contribute to the cost of a bridge and Barnsley Council would have then had to pay all the cost and would probably have had to go for a far inferior architecturally pleasing design.

All this is in the public domain but it's far easier to spout off "Barnsley's Labour Council is inept" rather than researching the facts.

I hope that when the new bridge is open that you don't use or even look at it, as a matter of principle.

OMG! People will have to walk a bit further or find a new route to get to Oakwell! How dare they? Who is to blame? Shambles! The council is rubbish. How dare they tell me where to go??? Whinge, moan and whine.

I don’t think I’ll bother going. The powers that be have made a total balls up by the closing of the level crossing, which after several lifetimes is now dangerous!

I'm a bit put out by the suggestion we should have to walk all the way around the back of the Alhambra because as football fans we are deemed not worthy of being able to walk through it.
I have so far this season got on the train from Darton. Obviously given the opposition this is rightly been advised against. So I will instead drive in, is there a sensible alternative to parking in courthouse? Genuine question, I rarely go into town and when I do that's where i park.

A few years ago, i went to pick up my dad from cudeth, it was the night england u21s played someone, with southgate coach and Stonesy starring.
It took over an hour to get to the ground and pontefract road was a nightmare, just made the kick off, normally journey takes 20 mins tops. So i do hope they police it well and get the traffic in there.

How anyone came blame the Council is beyond me, if a group of folk can't get along for a couple of hours without wanting to tear each others heads then by all means blame the knuckledraggers not B.M.B.C.

Am I missing summit here ? Why is it not the councils fault ? They knew the level crossing was shutting something should have been done proactively rather than this **** show !
You heard it here first these arrangements will become permanent, the glassworks will be overspent and there will be nothing left.
Don’t get me wrong I want the scheme to succeed but I’m cynical

No - you are not missing anything.
The fact remains - no matter how much consultation there has been - this Labour controlled Barnsley Council has left us with a bridge that is NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE.
Which would be fine but it could have serious consequences.

Regarding posts saying ‘why can’t fans behave’.
I spoke to a police officer recently about an incident and in conversation we got talking about policing Barnsley matches.
He said it’s relatively easy to police the Barnsley games because it’s more or less concentrated near the Jumble Lane Crossing.
He went on to say - the closing of that crossing means supporters will be heading to and from the ground in a variety of directions. The police have no chance of covering all the potential flash points.
In other words - if there is a serious incident amongst supporters then Barnsley Council must share some of that responsibility.

And do the people that are knocking seven shades of **** out of each other takes responsibility, or just the council?

Obviously the blame should be laid at both parties doors.

    1. We shouldn’t have folk knocking **** out of each other over a game of football.
    2. The proper authorities shouldn’t be creating a perfect storm for this to take place, and unfortunately that is what they’re doing.

Why are they installing more Cctv at the train station if they’re not expecting something to happen?

Unless you thought the glass works was going to built in 3 months during the closed footy season it was always going to impact matchdays.

Whilst I have stuck up for the council on this issue (the bridge), I do think it's a poor state of affairs that it has since been delayed beyond the end of this season. Wasn't be new bridge meant to be up by Christmas ?

Never said that but better planning would have seen the replacement started before the level crossing is closed!

It's a really sad fact that two sets of fans coming together by the train station will cause trouble.
Personally I'll try and avoid the area after the game.

You could park up near the tax offices, behind the McDonald’s... you’re then straight down through the underground Alhambra roundabout.... they sometimes leave the barriers up for the offices and you can park for free on a Sunday.
