Fine lines as usual. Had Thiam not mis-controlled the ball in the first place he doesn’t then need to chase him down and give the foul. However, the free kick still has to be defended
Tell you what’s awesome. Being able to boil down 90 minutes plus of action into one specific event and the blaming an individual for the loss of the whole game. I’m impressed. Have a blue peter badge
If we'd have scored two of our 50 thousand chances then even with Thiam giving away the free-kick we'd have drawn that 2-2 and come away with a point. Blaming one player for us losing 2-0 with the way we played is daft.
Charlie Chaplin did come on. I'd have rather we didn't make any substitutions the team that started were playing well. We lost momentum through the changes. It was a daft free-kick to give away though. Shades of Emile Heskey in Euro 2004 v France.
Or Wilks hitting the side netting and not squaring to Thomas? Or Wilks being greedy on his big run hitting it straight at the keeper instead of passing? Or when Halme had a free header and missed the target? Lots of reasons we didn't get anything from yesterday.
What I would have wanted from Mama when he came on was what I would have wanted from any of the men off the bench and that was to palpably seen him running his blood to water for the team - I know different players have different styles and qualities but I didn`t see that commitment from Thiam yesterday and this is why it highlights his error in first losing the ball through a seemingly careless bit of play and then giving away the freekick which changed the game. Personally when he came on I thought his attitude smacked of sulking that wasn`t on from the start - might be wrong.
No, someone actually pointed out that he had to actually ******* mark their winger - he then malfunctioned and had to come off
Don’t think he did any worse than his replacement. Didn’t help that the 3 subs we brought on a probably 3 of the most complacent with the ball
I can’t imagine it’s easy to come on in a high tempo game like yesterday’s and immediately get up to speed, and any mistake at that point of the game will stand out. Let’s not blame individuals and make assumptions about their state of mind.
I thought Thiam's error was through over trying if anything. He was hammered before for not tracking back. Now he's being hammered for making an error whilst tracking back. I'll concede his error set the rot in but I won't hammer him for it. It wasn't like Mcgeehan's errors of a few games ago that were being made every game. It was a one off.
