I actually saw someone get pulled by an unmarked car on Saturday on the M62 because he drove up the unmarked cars arse. I was in the middle lane, unmarked car had just passed me with bloke up his arse when all of a sudden, the little scrolling matrix sign in his back window lit up and pointed for him to pull over. I laughed loudly all the way home!
A similar thing happened to me once, was driving to work from Midgley roundabout down to Calder Grove and this ***** in a Ford Ka or something along those lines was tailgating me a fair distance despite it being pretty busy. Just before you get to the Kingfisher chippy he decided to go onto the other side of the road, round some traffic islands and overtook me. Suddenly this all black car lit up like a Christmas tree and pulled him over. Instant karma!
Yes they are, you shouldn't drive in the middle lane if there's no traffic in inside lane. Police can do you for it.
What I am finding more and more as well is that on the stretches of motorway that have been widened to 4 lanes, no one uses lane 1. Why??
I've travelled for 3 miles down the M1 with 3 inside lanes free, and a line of cars (BMWs) in the outside lane. Bonkers.
Also that at the point where M1 converts from 3 lanes to 4 lanes, the traffic coming onto the motorway (in the new lane 1) dont understand that they're not entering on a standard sliproad. First thing they do is pull out into lane 2, leaving lane 1 completely empty. Lorry drivers are particularly bad for it, then half a mile down the road they suddenly cotton on and pull back in again. It'd be laughable if these weren't professional drivers. It's not as if there are no signs.
Had this on the m1 a few years back. They got so far then realised the hard shoulder was blocked so proceeded to force their way out from the hard shoulder and across the traffic. Unbelievable
When driving to Barnsley from Penistone - over the MI - keeping to the left hand lane - almost every time someone will speed down the middle lane and then pull in on to the nearside lane - and it's not someone who has made a mistake - they're deliberately using the middle lane as a way of overtaking.
Because it's an offence? And in some cases, of course you can go past, but they're clearly in the wrong, and if you can't see that, you're a part of the problem
The police must monitor that stretch frequently as I had a similar situation recently but going the opposite way. Was heading back from Calder Park to Shepley around 7.00pm on a Friday evening. Anyway, as I got going through Calder Grove noticed a Golf was right on my back bumper, he followed me through there and then as you hit the long stretch on Denby Dale Road up to the roundabout at West Bretton/Midgeley he decided to overtake me and two cars in front of me in one go. However, there was an unmarked police car set back from the road as you go past the delta force paintball place. The police car shot straight out of there and pulled him over further up near the roundabout. Instant karma as you say!
Of course it matters. That's why it is an offence to hog the middle lanes. 1. They are making people filter into 1 lane to overtake them, thus effectively reducing capacity on the road and indirectly causing tailbacks when it is busy. 2. Alternatively, people feel obliged to undertake them which is also an offense and can be dangerous because if someone is a lane hogger and thus a crap driver you can be sure they won't be hot on their mirror discipline either. 3. Its bloody ignorant. If you are arguing the case that there is no problem with hogging the middle lane then I presume that's because you are one of the ones that do it. If so, stop.
As a shift worker I drive very early in the morning and late night. The problem with that is the number of people who think that speed limits don't apply at that time. Cars flying up behind you and often wild dangerous overtakes because I refuse to drive at 50mph on 30 roads because it early/late.
