Or we are all capable of telling a joke about our race religion and creed and those of the company we are in. Its all about context. Too many people seem to forget this.
There's a sketch in Fawlty Towers where the Major talks about "the wogs". I think it gets removed from re-runs now. It's clever because it makes fun of the white man's racist views but no-one would consider including it in a script now...so in a sense it is a step backwards.
You have hit the nail on the head though with this. That word is merely an abbreviation, but said in hatred it is wrong. I live in Leeds 6 and nearly all the taxi drivers are from Pakistani backgrounds. They are all a great laugh, if you chat with them. They are usually driving me back from a gig in the early hours & I've had a few. They don't judge me for that, but I respect them too & we get on really well. I don't get why we should feel like they aren't welcome. They are lovely people & I'm not a christian anymore, I'm an agnostic. Not sure how many believers we have on the board. I respect their beliefs as much though, if there are some. I would point out Jesus wasn't a white guy though.
I've still got it on an old DVD & I totally agree. The Major was an out of touch old bloke. Brilliant scripting.
its all nonsense to me pal . We all sleep, we breath, we work, we have kids, we get married and divorced, get ill, get better, we all peg it eventually. Black, brown, white, yellow(never seen a yellow person btw). Racisim is overrated in my eyes.
My daughter uses fake tan, it's an unknown phenomenon in my world. I usually say to her ' tha looks like Trump lass' . She laughs and slaps some more on .
Excellent thread- it’s about time that a group of Middle Aged white men got to decide what is or isn’t racist.
Hopefully we aren't, but being a Barnsley website we will be largely. Mining was a primary industry in the second world war, so Barnsley had few asian & black immigrants after the war, as opposed to Burnley, a team many journalists confuse us with. We have had immigrants since then from Europe, but I'd say this board would be 95% white. I'm not bothered what anyone's skin colour is, or where they were born for the record, as long as the support our team & work in our community.
Here's some quality browning up. It was very gentle even at the time, and I've read that Indian people held this with some affection, especially as Michael Bates was part-Indian I think. Doesn't get shown on telly now of course, despite some fine acting.
