If you attended today you would have no doubt that this team playing in this way will get relegated. The team that was bottom of L1 was better than the current one in almost every position
Fair do's! But 4th above the drop is one place above the top spot in League One, and we have no Hourihane or Winnall (cue JLWBL!)
The frustrating thing is I don't think this is a particularly strong Championship and there are a good number of entirely average sides. But on the flip side, I don't see many awful teams either, it's all a much of a muchness. Our problem is although a lot of sides could well be down the bottom end of the table, there isn't really a basket case club other than Stoke, who will eventually improve you'd think. There's no financially crippled side like Bolton, Pompey etc who in the past have been anchored to the bottom, nor is there an obvious struggler like Burton or Rotherham (I suppose we fall into that bracket). So out of a very average league, I can't see any side finishing below us as is stands and that is a huge concern. You could look at Millwall, but they are picking up points regularly and perhaps Luton, but they've showed a fair bit more ability than us so far in adapting to the Championship. It's very difficult to see us staying up.
This squad offers little offensively. We’ve started the last two games with a bloke who couldn’t get much of a game for Coventry... Wilks and Thomas has two goals and an assist between them.
I take no pleasure in this but I think that is a genuine possibility. Rotherham's 23 points is the lowest ever. Over the past 22 seasons, the team placed 3rd from bottom i.e. the highest to go down, have averaged 35.8 points. 36 points would have been enough to stay up on 10 occasions. It's very hard to see how we might get that many. We have a crisis at the club and it's of our own making. When it comes to incoming and outgoing transfers management decision making has been so poor as to be almost negligent.......
Huge overreaction. It's the first time we've been hammered like this, and deservedly so, Preston were miles better than us on the day. But we gave Forest, Leeds, Fulham, Charlton, Wigan and Derby a game. I was there today and it was about as bad second half as I've seen in a long time, not in terms of effort but our complete inability to play football. They were struggling with even the most basic of ideas and from the 46th to the 79th minute our defenders (except Ben Williams) seemed to be in a competition to f*** up worse than the next man. It was comical really. I can't believe we didn't concede double figures. Brad Potts nearly scored three and he was only on for 10 minutes. Ben Williams was very good but the other three were shambolic. Sibbick had good moments but must have forgot that he was moved into defence because he kept trying to play midfield as well. Halme put in one of the worst performances I've ever seen. He won his headers, but christ he was shocking at everything else and I think he makes Liam Lindsay look electric. Jordan Williams never stopped working and trying but had one of those days where football disagreed with him. I felt sorry for him and can't believe our 'fans' cheered him off. He's 19 ffs. Get behind them. Browny was invisible and looks miles off this season, but again, he tries his best. The rest were alright. But you can't have four or five sh** performers. Not at this level. And PNE were on form and took us apart. It's not the end of the world though.
And all 3 will spend a fortune in comparison to us in the transfer window, when our owners have equal if not greater spending power. It might not save them, but it will certainly increase their chances.
We haven't been given a team which can compete THIS season, in THIS division. It's been built 100% with future resale value in mind, most of which will only be accrued after a successful League One campaign. There's no dream of achieving anything higher than that with this plan. I want to see my club win matches and do as well as we can in every competition we are entered in. I don't get any joy out of seeing us flourish on an accountant's spreadsheet.
Nowt to do with how much teams spend it’s what you spend it on and if they’ll fit in . This urging the board to spend more than others because they’ve got money is never gonna happen . Owners don’t spend their own money they put debt on the club , debt we can’t sustain is not an option .
Don’t think they’ve spent much at all in reality have they this lot since taking over? Not a mark on what PC did any road? Can someone clear this up? Cos it seems all smoke and mirrors without substance to me with these owners, fancy sound bites without actual action so far, haven’t even reinvested all proceeds from player sales back into the side that I can see as Conway quite publicly announced they would
