As I remember Ross was the boards top target prior to appointment of Stendal. I have a crazy feeling that Jack Ross will be our new Manager and Stendal will go the other way... Ross could be a good fit at Oakwell... Whoever comes in obviously now unable to buy players of bring in loans... only option is free transfer market and break currently youth policy. I had heard someone suggest Paul McShane. He would bring experience, influence and leadership we need on the pitch. But sadly he's crocked, dogged by injury and only managed handful of games last season for Reading before being released. Hard to believe so many players available. At this stage makes you question fitness or why they are still available. Interesting names I pulled out were; Michel Vorm (GK), Jordan Spence (CB), Joe Ledley (CM), Ben Marshall (RB/RM), Gary Hooper (FC), and Wilfried Bony (FC). Instant thought with Bony would be 'nah, would come here' couldn't afford wages but he is currently training with Newport County. What ever happens... I will always be a RED!
From Stendel to Ross. A great swap but 1- 1 draws when we've thrown a lead away after desperately trying to hang on doesn't inspire me. Are there enough matches left to get us to safety on mainly draws and the odd win?
On another note Sunderland fans reckon on it being a 3 way swap they get Daniel we get Hecky and Hibs get Ross!
Ross managed to motivate teams north of the border... similar situation to Nathan Jones at Stoke... both good coaches who have made giant leaps from small clubs where they had respect to former premier league clubs, with players on big money, and questions raised about unrest in the dressing rooms. Tough gig, dealing with ego's of the high rollers... perhaps not the right fit for those clubs but could thrive in another role! developing youth???
To be fair... I'd take draws right now to stop the rot! We need to make Oakwell a fortress as it was in L1 last season...
Didn't he turn us down before we went for Daniel? Based on his record at Sunderland I'd say it would be an uninspiring appointment.
Ross had relative success with a team in a league where the quality is League One/League Two. Jones won back to back promotions with Luton Town blowing the opposition away and moving unearthed diamonds on to Premier League teams for big money. Their success couldn't be more different in terms of levels for me and Ross plays dross football. Stendel was the #1 choice. Ross was never offered the job. McCann was close, but the closest outside of those was Darren Moore before they knew he was getting offered the WBA job.
It's an interesting one, there's a fair few Sunderland supporters who would like to see Stendl come in based on the style of football that you played least season. Ross for me lacked experience and he struggled to set his team up to attack enough. He could do well given the chance but I would say 95% of Sunderland supporters are pleased he's gone.
My mate is a Mackem and lives locally and goes to home and away matches frequently,, or did until Ross had settled in and according to him played the worst football he can remember Sunderland playing. says he was like a rabbit in the headlights for most of the time and should never have left Scotish football as that was his barra. But we all have opinions don't we.
I really hope not. Even in League One where their squad is considerably better than most of their opposition, they still try to grind out a win by a goal. Depressing football.
if this crap board of ours had any sense and guts, after they have seen the fans response, they would invite daniel back on better terms and let him bring in the free agents he wanted.
Dont know how accurate it is, but Mirror are tipping Phil Parkinson or Jan Siewart as our next Coach.
