Back in the day of Keith Lodge he would not have dared write an article like that. Always toed the party line so that he could get his scoop for Fridays publication.
Not sycophantic in the least. He has written what he knows as fact and quoted the comments of the fans. I suspect he has approached the club for an interview or comment and they have given a reply that the BBC gets when they invite a politician on to 'Newsnight', " No one is available". The CEO and board will be keeping a low profile in the hope it has all blown over by the next home match.
No need...ah...just noticed the wink. I am actually Diablo Advocatis, a famous spouter of contrary views...
Fair enough if you don't think its sycophantic. However, 'suspecting' he has approached the board means you don't know if he did or not. Therefore, its quite feasible to also assume that he didn't even try...Who knows? The point is it doesn't shed any further light on anything of substance regarding recent events.
An excellent write-up by Doug. Totally spot on. I feel pretty much ashamed of the club at the moment. Hope fans choose a moment in the Swansea game to ram that home to this insular board. Perhaps a 21st minute exit is in order.
When I worked at the club the Chron spoke to the CEO once per week (during the season) in addition to the weekly press conference.
Like or loathe Risdale, he loved the chronicle and was a journo dream, with his quotes etc. Im not saying for one minute he was any good in his tenure at oakwell but he knew how to liaise with the local press. Something our present incumbent have fallen short of. I think Doug O Kane has typified the spirit of 90% of the fan base with that piece.
That really is provocative copy. I don't think I've ever read anything like that from The Chronicle. I agree with every word, but it's gutsy and I think they've probably lost access to any of the owners for future interviews. It's bang on though.
You're probably correct about the access in the short term. In the long term though the club could use a community media outlet like the chron. We'll have to see
Given the way other national papers reported it I cant see how the Chronicle can be tame about events. The support was/is unique in a departing manager and I can see why they approached it as they did. I am certain the club could have given their side if they so wished. As others have said they may well be waiting for the fuss to die down but unless we start winning and climb to the playoffs I cant see that it will for quite a while.
He possibly skips over the ‘separated’ word a little too easily. That word indicates to me, that at the time nothing was agreed contractually, so they could not saying anything more about it. It’s still likely the case too, hence no further statement.
