Me neither. I did think he was actually enjoying the football and being an owner what with going to the away days etc and doing the interview with Tykes TV. But the fact he wouldnt budge on anything this season and the way he's thrown away the fans goodwill in a matter of days makes me wonder wtf is going on.
And by looking to Siewart who has nt got a good track record and took our assistant manager from us makes me think that he wants to antagonize the fans still further.

Paul Conway has always made me suspicious of his supposed wealth. The reason is White, American Millionaires, usually have better haircuts, fitted tailoring. Whereas he doesn't convince as a University Business Major from the US.

The company I used to work for borrowed money from a British company who were very much of the hedge fund/investor mould. During the period the monies were owed they were assigned a dedicated senior employee, who was put on the board of directors and was very involved, he wasn’t involved in physical day to day but very heavily hands on.
Conway reminds me of the same set up.

The same one that gave us 3 sides of our ground, the training facilities, Premier league football, and our first trip to Wembley. Of course mistakes were made and the collapse of ITV digital at a time when we were slightly overstretched brought his time to a very sad end.
But I don't look back and define his time here simply by how it ended.

The questions I posed must remain in view because they are as important today as they were on Wednesday and they will be just as important next Saturday. I'm not on a mission to do down our current owners because like it or not, our immediate future as a club lies with them. The more salient question is whether all of us can remain on board with the project because for me, the questions I posed need answers.

It wasn't like we were millions in debt from unchecked overspending was it?
ITV digital collapsed. Money the club should have been contractually paid never came. This sort of "knock on" situation is very common. Just this morning I have been reading about some Spanish hotels facing closure as a result of Thomas Cook collapsing.
The club probably ran at a greater loss during Crynes time, which he covered(very generously) with his own money.

With the ITV money situation every club was in the same situation , but there weren’t wholesale administrations . Cryne was already putting money into the Academy . Why didn’t Dennis do what Doyle did or a variation of it , at least put it to a share holders meeting

Not saying he was blameless at all, as I said the ITV collapse came when we were overstretched. Clearly in hindsight that was a mistake. Just that as with everything it isn't a case of black and white. Cryne made a lot of mistakes too, he could have had the club before Doyle stepped in for example.
Anyway as I say I look back on Dennis time fondly and remember him as someone who did a hell of a lot of good for the club and gave us our best moment ever.
If you see things differently then that's fine i have no desire to go over all the old ground of that time and i accept I could be wrong on some points.I merely wanted to give some balance to the original point I replied to.

It’s great how time alters the narrative. JD was hated for much of his time as Chairman. Then again, there are people getting misty eyed about Cryne now too, when he received some right hammer also.

i never hated JD personally can't speak for others, i was never happy with the time under Cryne as we saw next zero investment in the club and facilties. However i also accept he was putting his own money up to cover the shortfall at times.

Dennis had no choice but to upgrade the stadium, the Taylor report saw to that. And much of it was funded by grants or player sales. Had we not sold Ward maybe we’d have gone back up?

You can’t then blame Cryne for not (over a 10-year period) building anything else, when there was simply no need. I’d argue that him saving the club from oblivion, then funding it over a decade right up until his last breath is enough to warrant some form of credit.

But my point remains. Both previous ownerships in my time supporting the club were often lambasted and blamed for this and that.
I remember the sack the board chants mid nineties and we want Dennis out protests the season before promotion. There was a terrible feel about the club amongst fans prior to that famous season too as we saw Payton and others depart and a collection of old men and unknowns join us summer of 96.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing on this forum and last night with the Toney thread only highlighted that further.

I think it was mainly down to ITV Digital.
