Wonder how many of these thatcher haters manage to buy their council house at a knock down price and make a tidy sum when they sold it
Is that the best you have when defending Thatcher? How many would’ve liked to have bought their houses but couldn’t because they lost their jobs? Scrap how many people...how many communities were ravaged because Thatcher decided to ruin an entire industry? Instead of worrying about buying their houses they were worrying about feeding their kids and actually being homeless. What about Hillsborough where she actively took part in a government cover up to shift the blame from the authorities onto the supporters? Those are two topics I feel confident in talking about so those are the only two I’ll fetch up. There were plenty more but I shall only stick to what I’m educated in.
probably millions less than struggled to afford somewhere to live, found they couldn't go to the council because they'd sold their houses and failed to build any replacements. they instead ended up stuck paying over the top rents to private landlords to live in slum housing that the government failed to pass sufficient legislation to protect them.
My Grandad landed at Salerno, went in to fight at Anzio and Monte Casino. Hated the Italians more than the germans, it’s easy for us who didnt go through it to say ‘move on’ but I suppose genuine hatred is too heavy a burden to ever shake off. Shame like, I do wonder how folk must perceive our town when they read threads like this.
Despite what her actions did to my family, specifically my grandparents, I still find it hard to wish death on someone. Deon Burton on the other hand...
Aye, it's all about money and making a quick buck without thinking about other consequences. Communities don't matter, only economic individuals do. No such thing as society. I wonder who said that.
fot goodness sake this has been done to death. Labour closed more pits fact. They also retrained or redeployed workers, looked after the communities and the people that were affected. genuine question are you actually from Barnsley?
close enough. You should still recognise the way closures were done even if you weren’t in the industry. It’s been discussed often enough on here
That’s the problem with the world in general sometimes mate, people feel like they can comment about things they don’t have knowledge on and they expect it to be treated as fact. Get educated on the subject John mate and come back to us.
