A Director of Football at the club. Because its being run by absolute headless chickens at the minute!
Considering the CEO (whatever he's called) has been involved in the recruiting aspect from where he came, I suspect he's the one in charge of recruiting and the framing is from above that. There's absolutely no point having a Director of Football when the owners have set the strategy to raw youth at the expense of game time and experience. For what the owners want from recruiting, the set up works exactly as its intended.
A Maurice Watkins type. You didn’t hear much from Maurice while he was at the club - that’s the CEOs job - but obviously Patrick thought highly of him. And if you read what connections Maurice had then you can see why. I would guess - that most of if not all the managers that Patrick appointed was through connections Maurice had with people in football. And when you look back - we have had some good managers recently that only failed because Patrick wasn’t able to compete in the transfer market. There needs to be a strong central structure built within the club. Owners that are willing to put money in when required. A director of football with knowledge and links to people within the English game. A CEO that understands football and football supporters - who can communicate and promote the club. A recruitment team that can identify the players that are needed. A coaching team that can get the best out of the players.
