Just recieved a Notice of Intended prosecution for an offence committed 4 days ago on the M27
Its for a car I sold to WebuyAnyCar a whole month ago - I got an acknowledgement from the DVLA at least 3 weeks ago for the sale - now I am going to have to dig out all the proof and send the stuff all back to Hampshire plod -stress and a waste of time I could well do without

    Grrr

Still it could be worse when I first saw the NIP I wondered if it was for me but at least it isn't that

You think that's a head ache... Ive Just received a bill for 37€ for toll fees in Portugal from 5 years ago..im busy searching old records from proof that I've paid all said fees.
I always pre pay for the toll device when hiring cars... Ive spoke with those in charge who are collecting so called debt I've spoken with Portuguese toll services who said only record of debt against my name was 4€ ( same bill apparently) which even though I objected I paid direct to them . I've now been billed for same debt plus it will occur further expenses should I not pay it before a set date....

That does sound a bit tricky - In general I only keep most receipts for things like tolls, fuel etc for a year then bin them - only things that are valuable or have longer than 1 year warranties would I keep that long. I wouldnt have kept proof of payment for a toll in say France from 5 years ago thats for sure
    Dont envy you that one.

Call me stupid, but if the offence happened 4 days ago and the DVLA system was amended over 3 weeks ago, why arent the police using current data when they issue the NIP?

That question is one that occurred to me as well. I wonder if the DVLA dont update the database with motor traders? so the police take the last known keeper to do their legwork for them. Ive even got a cheque from the DVLA for a refund on my road tax - dated 19th September.

In fact I just checked and the car is shown as untaxed so I am bit surprised I havent been hit with a charge for driving without tax and insurance as well
Guess the car is still in the motor trade as if it was sold it would need to be taxed as well before it can be driven away

Not only do I need to spend time and effort to dig out and copy receipts (done)- I also need to provide my own envelope and stamp - will probably send it recorded delivery as well just in case they come back to me and say I didnt respond.

Your correct they don’t update for traders as it just adds another name on log book and devalues car.

That's the thing, if you're not going back just ignore it, if you are you have to sort it out.
I received 3 separate speeding fines in the space of 10 minutes in Australia. I didn't know the speed limit so was simply driving the same speed as traffic around me. It was a dual carriage way with central reservation, hard shoulders and away from a built up area. I was in the inside lane for each offence. My speeds were recorded as 42 kph, 42 kph and 43 kph. That's 26 mph. The limit was 40 kph. Each time I was less than 2mph over the limit.
The date of these terrible crimes? 25th December 2017. A date which carries double fines. Good will to all men.

    Ignore it.

No juristiction in the UK so its a fishing exercise

Unless youve paid anything or written acknowledgemebt inside the last 5 years its buggered under limitations anyway.

    So a fishing exercise.

If they were that arsed about the money dont you think theyd have mentioned it sooner...

If youve paid it. Tell them in writing paid on date x and ignore them.

    Fishing exercise.
