    Blue and Orange Mini Clubman 1100 special.
    Light brown crushed velour interior. It actually had headrests and a rev counter. It was painted badly in STP racing colours. I loved it!!

    2 tone (British racing green & rust ) MG midget.... Worst memory cold wet November night parked under Cudworth bridge lying underneath car in my best togs reconnecting the live wire to the petrol pump conveniently located near the rear nearside wheel arch.

    Test passed in 1970, bought a 1959 998cc Mini (2532 BT) in nvgc :) Cost £30, spent as much again on, ahem, improvements. Cracking little car if a bit noisy and draughty.

    Rear subframe rotted through, and used a gallon of Duckhams 20/50 oil every 100 miles! Pity the guy following me through the smokesceen.

    Speaking of old cars, what about the stuff to go in them that’s come and gone, remember

    8 tracks

    Having to choose between radio or cassette before combi units came in

    A particular favourite the baco foil rear window heaters that were a bugger to get on and took up half the window

    aerials that you lovingly fitted then forgot to put it down and some batrsteward bent or snapped it.

    Cost me £400 and even though I loved it, I was robbed...

    Every time it rained I got wet feet as there were loads of holes in the footwell.

    The cabin also filled with smoke until the day the exhaust fell off. (Negotiating a speed bump with some exuberance).

    I only had it a few months when somone ploughed into the back of me and wrote it off.

    1980 Vauxhall Chevette. A rusty brown colour £700 in bought in 1986 and I loved it. As said above Haynes manual essential and did Brakes oil servicing etc myself

    Remember changing an alternator in the snow. Times change though last car I serviced myself was an A-reg Volvo 340 even changed a valve in that. These days I look under the bonnet and filling the wash bottle is about my limit.
