None of those three. Let's focus on looking after our own first before we decide to invite the poor of eastern europe to come and sponge off us.

They're doing it now, because they can get more on benefits than they can working full time. I've a young lady at work who's just gone part time 'for childcare reasons' the real reason is because she can stay at home 3 days a week and claim benefits and be no worse off. All wrong innt.

    LUMP OF LABOUR FALLACY

It was disproved over in 1891, so nearly 130 years ago. There is not a fixed amount of work to be done and immigrants bring skills that natives don't have (as well as being significantly less likely to break the law).
It is the same with the retirement age. Lowering the retirement age and making people retire early (for instance in times of high unemployment) does not increase the employment rate but actually works to reduce the number of people in employment.

That does sound shocking. A society that supports mothers spending time with children. Crazy stuff. Everyone working 60 hours a week is the dream.

Of course there isnt, which is why the fewer people available to carry out the work the more the employer will have to pay to recruit them,, you've proved my point Scoff !!

If/when benefits are cut you don't end up paying less tax.

There is so much to feel sad about in this thread and I think it shows how entrenched Britain has become. I'm just as bad as others at times, but true debate and reason hardly occurs anymore, and I think that's for two reasons. People often don't, or don't want to listen. And people fear changing their minds or views.

Can someone tell me why we shouldn't stop huge companies purposefully defrauding the Treasurer by using mystical management charges and offshoring costs to more tax advantageous tax regimes.... while ALSO trying to stop fraudulent claims by individuals through benefits and handouts too?

Surely a fair society is where any wrongdoing is prevented, whoever it may be? Surely a fair society is where people who cant support themselves are given assistance when they need it, while people who want to push and aspire and generate rewards beyond an average wage aren't demonised for doing so.

I happen to know hundreds of business owners who have businesses of varying sizes. Some get very good rewards for years of risk. Putting their houses at risk, borrowing of loved ones and having money troubles to keep cashflow going. I know some people who in the 2008 credit crunch took no money at all. I know some who ran up huge debt just to keep people employed at their own expense, I know ones who put credit plans in place with HMRC to keep the doors open and stop redundancies taking place.

The rhetoric that business is the problem is a massive concern to me and if the worst aspects of Brexit do come to fruition, unemployment could boom like we've not seen in decades and individual workers will be the ones hurt most. Not all business owners are millionaires. And many work ridiculous hours. Often working while on holiday, often carrying stresses that many people aren't exposed to.

Yes, people on the bread line is a certain sort of pressure and not a pleasant thing. But imagine having 5 employees you feel responsible to. or 10. Or 100. Or a 1,000.

I don't think its a good thing to attack business (and I can share that many micro and SME business owners I know do feel the anti business sentiment from some quarters) and I don't think its a good thing where support is cut from those who really deserve and need it.

If we look after people, we don't have to demonise all business. If we allow businesses to get away without paying tax, it doesn't mean people have to suffer as a consequence. Its ok to expect business to be honest and pay its fair share. Its also ok to expect people to play their part and not get free payouts when they don't deserve it.

Its ok to try and help business to flourish, grow and keep paying its fair share, while also ensuring the needy and deserving have a safety net for them.

Things don't have to be so absolute one way or the other.

So you’re ignoring the evidence and just sticking to a false promise.
We don’t have low wages because of uncontrolled immigration, otherwise wages across the EU would be uniform.
    But they’re not.
But you’re happy doffing your cap to the ‘gaffer class’ and letting them pick the pockets of the poor and paying your taxes to help them do it.

there’s not so queer as folk as my dad used to say

I’ll ask again, if you know this to be true (and it’s real) have you reported her for benefit fraud.
But you’ll ignore that as you did last time.
Not to mention the fact the sums don’t add up. But it’s probably not quite the whole truth and you know that the real truth doesn’t sound so dramatic.
